X-reas w/ rear air suspension

Does anyone know if the ride is any different between the Limited's w/ X-reas and the Sport Edition with X-reas?

I know X-reas is optional on the Limited w/ rear air ride height suspension and it is standard on the SE. I'm just curious if the rear air suspension changes the ride at all? I guess I don't totally understand how the rear air effects the system other than changing the ride height...

Exactly how are the two systems different?

Yes, on the Limiteds, if it has the X-Reas Shocks option, it also has rear air height contol/suspension.

I'm just curious how the Limited rides differently than a Sport Edition, which uses X-reas Shocks and springs in the rear. Stiffer, softer, same?

Yes it still is X-reas with the air suspension since it only replaces the rear springs with air bags. X-reas only relies on the shocks.

I have a Limited with the Air-suspension. Honestly the ride is not noticeably different from a non Air-suspension runner. I absolutely love it for towing or heavy loads. It levels out the truck no matter whats back there. At the same time I cringe at the thought of fixing it. I know that something is eventually going to fail on the system and its going to get ugly when I need to either fix it or replace it. Sensors are $350 a piece.

If this question is because you're thinking about buying a runner with the AS installed, I would say that if your only planning on keeping the truck for less then 5 years or less than a 100k miles then I wouldn't hesitate for a second. If its something you are planning on keeping until it dies (like me) then go with the regular suspension.

Thanks specialist. Glad to hear it rides about the same. That's what I would expect, but you never know. The truck in my signature is what I am in the process of purchasing, but haven't taken delivery yet. It does have the Air Suspension and Xreas. Since I do tow quite a bit, I expect I would appreciate it, as you do. However, I am concerned about the maintenance factor. I had my last 4Runner for over 200,000 miles, so I fully plan to keep my next one for a long period of time, as well. It does give me some cause to reconsider the purchase. Features that are "nice" today may not be worth it if they will be a nightmare in a few years....

The main reason for the failure is either the height sensor rusting out or the relief valve on the compressor failing to open. Both are caused from rust and/or corrosion. So if you live in the rust belt (like me) then be prepared for the cost of fixing or replacing parts.

If you live somewhere without the worry of corrosion I'm sure it'd last a very long time.

Just to clarify.

The V8 Limited can have just X-REAS without the rear air suspension, or it can have X-REAS with the rear air suspension.

You cannot have just rear air suspension without X-REAS.
