Yes, it is more in the size of the Ford Escape and so far not in the States. There is a thread about this at Edmunds, so far there are over 200 posts with links to other sites dealing with info on the X-Trail.

It looks like the X-Trail is coming to Canada in 2005, but not in the United States.

Tofino, British Columbia - Perhaps the most significant difference between the Canadian vehicle market and the U.S. vehicle market is that Canadian consumers tend to buy more smaller vehicles. In Canada, the Honda Civic is the best-selling automobile; in the U.S. it's the Toyota Camry. The same goes for SUVs. According to Nissan Canada's Marketing Director, Ian Forsythe, small SUVs make up 44% of the overall SUV market in Canada, while in the United States, it's only 26%. That might help to explain why Nissan will soon introduce the compact new X-Trail in Canada but not in the United States.

If it is anything like the escape they can keep it. My friend has a Ford Escape I wouldn't hop a curb in that thing. Grocery getter

It looks alot smaller than a Escape. I think maybe it won't pass US crash test standards?

They have those ugly things here. I think they are horrible looking.

Most of the ones I see on the road here, which aren't many, are rentals for the tourists here.

The size is smaller than my Surf but bigger than the Escape.

They may introduce the X-Trail here in the States if it does well in sales in Canada and it's not taking sales off the Xterra.

Some just want a mini-SUV which Nissan doesn't have for now in the States.
