XEAS Shock changeover height drop

I stopped by an Indie repair shop about installing new Bilsteins after pulling out my XEAS leaking shocks. He told me ride height will drop with new shocks because the fluid in the XEAS will keep the ride hieght up.
Is this a BS statement or will ride height change? I thought by reading the many posts on here that it was a easy swap.

Thanks

That is definitely not true. I swapped out the XREAS on my 07 Sport with 2012 FJ struts and actually gain a small bit of height. Can't remember what it was but you won't lose any.

shocks dont effect ride hieght at all, unless the extended length of the new shock is to short then the shocks would essentially be limit straps lol. Ride height is relative to the Coil springs: the number of coil wraps, the thickness of the coil wraps, the free hieght of the coil spring, and the coil spring rate are all the factors that if adjusted change ride hieght and ride qaulity or softness/stiffness.

Shocks simply dampen the bounce of the coil springs absorbing impacts that the tires experience durring driving. as the spring is being compressed the shock is putting resistance on the compression (slowing down how fast the spring compresses) then when the spring extends the shock again puts resistance in the opposite direction (slowing down how fast the spring extends back down)

+1 for finding a new shop or just rip the old XREAS setup out yourself if its already leaking. Theres a good many writeups on how to install and build the new front strut tower assemblies even without coil spring compressors. google "OME install without spring compressor"

Absolutely right, springs are the main factor in ride height on a vehicle, the shocks are to DAMPEN not support the vehicle. XREAS is easy to remove, just make sure you do it safely. I did a brief explaination in my build thread as have a few other members.
