Xenondepot Extreem HID installed...ZAP! No light?

Guys, I just finished installing Xenondepo's Extreem HID with the Phillips bulbs in my '16 Trail premium. I can post pics later. I worked until dark as usual..

Two things.. anybody have any dust covers they don't want?.. There MAY have been a wrong drill bit used..

To the real question! I had them on for a bit and the seemed to work fine. Put my tools away and drive around the block. No issue. Wife comes out and I'm all proud of my work until she turns the lights on. I hear a loud Zap. She turns them off then back on and ZAP again and no driver's side light.. turned lights off again then started the car then turned the lights on and they worked this time.

No idea what caused that but it was surely the driver's side something. Any ideas? Besides "It's because it was a woman!" :confused:

Calling the Canadians tomorrow too.

Ballasts yes. You have to use those. Relays, I wasn't sure of. I don't see anybody else using them and the wires are too short to reach over to the positive lead.

Yes the relay is what I meant. Sorry, long day. If you aren't using those then I'm not too sure what the issue could be myself. Was thinking an issue with the connection to leads.

My only guess would be to make sure there are no loose connections as far as being clipped. Clearly if reversed they would never have worked in the first place.

I have been running mine for over a year and a half now with no issues. Nice job with the dust caps lol. I almost did the same.

Ha ha... I'm an idiot, that's why I had to come in here and ask. I just used the hole saw that looked right.. it was not.. :shocked:

I called this AM and spoke to the guys at XD. They suggested that I look at the actual bulb to see if maybe it was arcing. That makes sense as the noise came from the front of the vehicle and what sounded like the headlamp assembly. I'll take the bulb out today after work and take a look at it. May be a good time to tape up my dust cover too... :crybaby:

A unibit? I have one but I finds that drilling an accurate size hole in really thin plastic is difficult to control. If you put ANY weight on it, you're going to drill past the step you had intended. I've had it around for 15-20 years but don't use it at all. Maybe I'll practice on the jacked up ones I have on the truck now.... ;)
 
Yes I sort of flew past the first two steps and got scared haha. I used gorilla duct tape to seal around the wires. Good Luck!
 
I used the relays that came with my kit from TRS want to play it safe

I used a step bit, but I also measured and marked the size on the cover before drilling so I'd know when to stop.

I had one of the small wires come out of the plug-in on the HID side the day after I put mine in. I never heard any zap, but when I was getting gas, I saw one side was off. I checked and found that a small wire had backed out of the plug. I guess it just wasn't secured inside and snapped in right. Pushed it back in and they have been working ever since.

I do have some annoying "light vibrations" on the road which I suspect is the HID's. When I hit bumps, there's a shudder of light on the road in front of me light my headlights are vibrating after the bump, until they slow down. Anyone else experiencing that?

Yes the hids do shake when hitting road imperfections. I was told it’s the increased light output causing the shudder to be more noticeable . I’ve just learned to live with it . I have a set of xtreme pro leds I might try and see if I have the same isssue .
 
When I installed mine the passenger side did not light up. In checking all the connections, the one in the light area itself the plug to the bulb was loose and once that was tight all the lights came on.

I did hear a pop once I turned them on and though that I had blown a fuse. I would go thru and make sure all your connections are tight.
