XJ swing out bumper on 3rd gen

Ran into a guy on a trail yesterday with a third gen. He had an XJ rear bumper on the rig. It was installed by the previous owner who worked for 4wp. Apparently it only required some slight bending for some tabs that went into the xj frame and was welded onto the t4r frame. Anyone heard of doing this before and have more info? Apparently the XJ bumpers are way cheaper (saw some on Amazon for $600 with a swing out) likely due to economy of scale. Only downside I saw was they don't wrap around the sides like our bumpers normally do although I wonder about the strength of them too.

I've often thought about this as well. There is what I believe to be an example of this up on craigslist currently 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle...

After seeing it it could still be an option if it were tucked closer on that example but the exposed quarters kind of kill it for me.

Lol that's actually the one I saw and talked to the guy. He's wanting to get an auto 3rd Gen that he can build out himself.
