Unless you are parked in the Local MickeyD's every time you "drive" those services still cost you money. Maybe not directly like XM, but it still costing you cash one way or another.

It annoys me that I have to tether my phone to use the fabulously lame Entune apps. But if Toyota provided the service, they'd be charging me money for the data, and they'd be stuck with all the connectivity headaches. So, I understand Toyota's perspective.

Like someone else mentioned, I let me XM lapse because they're just so freaking stupid and expect you to play the cancellation/renewal game. I called them once and asked for a lifetime subscription. Not offered anymore. Done. Bye. So now they'll spend the next 5 years sending me junk mail with the teaser rate. They're the only game in town for satellite, but they really deserve to go out of business.

I loathe Sirius/XM! Doesn't take long to memorize the play list for your "favorite station". Pass! I spend the money on songs for the I-phone. It's taken a while to build a decent library, but well worth it!

I like my XM. Its great for the mountains where you quickly loose radio reception (and cell service once your off the main roads). 6 moths for $26 seems like a good deal to me. On the other hand if your in an area that always has cell service, then I could see it being a completely unnecessary expense.
 
about 3 months ago i got an offer for 6 months at $30.. so i just called today since my 5 months promo at $25 was ending in 2 weeks and got it renewed at the new promotional rate..

I do not use the service on either of my vehicles. I download all of my music to my computer and then transfer to Flash Drives. A 16GB flash drive will hold 12,000 plus songs. You can store each in a folder and pick and choose which folder you desire or you can just let it continue on its own. My car has a 19 speaker surround sound system and when I got the trial period upon purchase of the vehicle the music sounded like crap and you hear the same old songs (about 100 I guess) on the station I was using. I listened to only what I want to hear with the Flash drive plugged into my USB drive. I do the same with my 4Runner, however, it only has 8 speakers and no surround sound. Still a lot better than anything XM offers.
 
So it was that time of year again for the pathetic renewal phone call. I got a slightly better deal this time compared to last year ($90.56 vs $101.97), but it took me nearly 2 hours and being hung up upon by 2 separate "customer service" reps after ridiculous hold periods.

If you could cancel your subscription online I would have! The 3rd and last rep was very quick in being able to accommodate both my price demand AND take down a complaint, which is the only reason I extended for another year (the wife like it on drives out west).

It did firmly cement my decision to not ever get a head unit with XMRadio ever again. the value proposition is questionable at best, but the complete lack of customer service takes the cake.

I don't like XM quality, the music is overcompressed and I can hear this.

I also happen to have an inch-long 16Gb flash drive stuck into the USB socket. There is enough music there to last me quite a long time :-)
 
renewal

Called a couple days ago and asked if I could get the same half price deal I got last time. As expected, the CS rep said "no", so I said I wanted to cancel. He said he would transfer me to another department for the cancellation. The CS rep in the "other" department came right on and asked what he could do for me. I explained that I wasn't sure why they transferred me to him, but that I would like to cancel since I couldn't get the same half-price deal I got last year. After "looking" for about 30 seconds he said he could give me the half-price special after all. I asked them to send me a bill and he said no problem. Total time on the phone was about five minutes. Got the bill two days later and sent a check. Set for another year. Very pleasant interaction.

I can't understand why so many people have such a negative experience with this.
 
My sub ended a couple of weeks ago, I called them up, spoke to a very polite gal. I explained that I don't use it that often, I have a 5-10 minutes drive to work, and thought it was a bit to expensive for the amount I use it. She asked me what I thought a reasonable price would be. I said $5.00. She put me on hold for the obligatory 25 seconds and come back and said well we can't do 5 but how about 7? $7 for XM premium, sure okay, I'll try it for a year.

I do like that fact when I do drive to the desert/Idaho/Wyoming/LA that I do get reception to whole time.

I guess they figure they would rather get some money that no money, makes sense really, sub services literally cost them nothing, just copyright, customer service, and well that costly satellite maintenance :)
 
This thread reminded me that my service was just shut-off because I didn't "pay my bill". I went round and round with SiriusXM shortly after they merged to transfer my Sirius lifetime subscription to my 4Runner (which obviously has the "XM" head unit). At that time, it was absolutely "impossible!" to transfer the subscription. So, I called today and told them I wanted to cancel my XM subscription since they had shut it off, and magically I could now transfer my old lifetime subscription for a nominal fee of $75. They also changed their terms of the lifetime subscription, and I'm only able to transfer it to a car radio once. Apparently I can transfer it to an "aftermarket" radio again, but not a car head unit.

And I just went to listen to Howard Stern this morning, and the channel was not authorized. I called, and they offered to "upgrade" my package for $100 to get my channels back. They're reasoning on this is because my subscription was a Sirius subscription, and now I'm using an XM radio, so it is different satellites and they need to charge me more money to get Howard Stern back on that radio. I got to the supervisor, and he waived the fee immediately. I think, "great, now everything can go back to normal." So, I go back in the house after confirming that everything is working in my truck, and I try to login to the Internet radio - which I had on my old subscription - and I can no longer login there! But, if I want to upgrade to Internet radio I can do so for only $4/month.
 
If they had consistent pricing and internet access to account changes I'd have been more likely to have stuck around. It was the negotiating and calling in hassles, along with the hang up phone calls that was to much. I got tired of that each time real quick. Doubtful I'll ever go back.
Pandora=no hassle what so ever. Great music all the time. And NO TALKING between songs. That was more than annoying.
 
I just did the 6 months for $25 ($30 with fees) yesterday. Been getting mail and email adds for a couple months. Of course it has auto renewal, but I've set a reminder to cancel in July.

At least I could do this on line and not have to deal with the insane CS reps.

I called to cancel (renew) today. I was offered 12 mo XM select with NavTraffic plus the online internet radio for $96. At 8 bucks a month I went ahead and kept the subscription.
 
XM Renewal

Never kept it after the initial trial period. Same tired old songs, over and over. The sound quality is terrible. Spent the extra money for the ML Sound and get Corolla quality sound from XM.
 
SiriusXM

I should have bought the lifetime when it was offered back in the day. However, I have either paid approximately 85 each year for the year subscription or the latest offer was 6 months for $25. I prefer SiriusXM to over the air, but my iPhone playlist is always expanding and continues to share playtime with the Satellite radio.
 
I've got Sirius/XM on three vehicles. Wasn't planning on renewing on one of the vehicles which expired two months ago and it's still playing :naughty: so I guess I'll see how long that goes on. The other two vehicles are not due till July 2014 so I'm hoping good deals are available than, or I'll just go to Pandora.

It didn't auto renew itself did it? I think they get a lot of people that way to keep paying.

No it didn't. They sent a bill, but I forgot it and didn't realize till Wednesday past, checked the Sirius/XM acct on line and my CC acct, no charges at all, plus there's no credit card on file with them. I'm not the first person this has happened too, I think there was one guy on here who's been on for more months than me.
