XM - Recent Renewals?

Thinking about renewing...called and the package I have (Sirius Select) is normally $165 but they have the same "deal" as when I renewed last year - $89 + taxes/fees. Anyone know of a better deal?

Their costs are all over the place.

You can pay 12 bucks a month, if you don't know any better, or let it lapse and get in on their renewal specials and pay a fraction of that.

Some business model.

Call in again and let them know that a friend of yours was saying he got a really good deal and you would like the same. I think the norm is 5 or 6 months for around $25. You might get "NO" a couple times, but just let them know that you would like to keep their service, but Pandora, Spotify, and all the other smartphone capable streaming apps are even better solutions for a lot lower price.

I'm not sure what channels your current package has, but I would expect it to be almost similar to the $25 deal. Double check on the difference if you listen to the premium channels.

When you do get the deal, if they charge you a activation fee, see if they will waive it for you and make sure you tell them not to auto renew you after the deal. I think they auto renew you to the higher priced plans. Better yet, tell them not to keep your credit card on file.

After never renewing the initial 3 month trial after purchasing the 4runner I got the "come back to SiriusXM" offer for 5 months for $20+fees with free reactivation.

Already marked my calendar to call in and cancel the day before it expires.

After 3-1/2 years of doing the cancellation dance every 5-6 months, they now tell me they can't throw in internet radio access. I told them the only reason I need the internet is because I can't get all the baseball channels with the car radio and I can't listen to both at once. They wouldn't budge. I told them no thanks and I was tired of the way they do business.
Has anyone been able to get internet radio tacked on lately?

I don't know if this was discussed, but I'm going to chime in and recommend that you absolutely make sure your account is set to PAPER BILLING and ensure that they don't have a credit card on your account.

I was doing the 5 month for $20 or $25 cycle for the last 2 years, and I forgot to call last time... Well, they didn't forget, and went ahead and billed me for the maximum account @$120something.

I called in an said I'd like to cancel because I didn't authorize that bill, and the friendly rep was quick to help, give me the $25/5mo deal, and credit me back the $100 difference. I asked about blocking my card, and they said that the only way to make sure you don't get errant re-subscriptions is to make sure you're on paper billing (I was somewhat shocked they put it that way). They even went so far as to delete my CC # from my account.

Long story short, if you're like me and forget everything, get on paper billing and you'll get reminders before your service is up- at which point you can call and make sure you get the $25/5mo or whatever deal you want.

Side rant- does anyone else think its hilarious that buying a YEAR or two years prepaid is more expensive than calling in every 5 months? Last time I was on the phone with them, I made it very clear that I was ready to buy TWO YEARS in advance if they gave me the $5/mo. They won't do it. The best annual rate I've heard of is still $87/mo. Crazy. Who do they think they are, timewarner??

Still have to call them every year or they charge me over 200$ with taxes for the year. And every...damned.... year, since 2009, I have to tell them that their original price is too much and that I want to cancel. Then they give me a lower price, but every year the price they give is different, ranges from 90$ to 140$. Nonsense.

I had an unknown number calling me on my phone for the past several days. Since it looked suspicious I just sent it to voicemail and whoever never left a message. After the 2nd time I put it on my block list and it went to a no ring, dead line, hang up. I checked my log and see its been calling many times. I google the number and surprise, surprise its Sirius XM. I checked the Google forum and find this is a common practice for them to call and call sometimes even hanging up when someone answers. Tons of pissed off people over there. Former customers.
This is just flat out weird business practice. I'm so glad I dumped them and will never use them again EVER.:gun6:

just got 6 months for $27.84 (including taxes, fees, 1 day credit - renewal date was tomorrow).

this was a much better deal than the 12 months for $99 (including taxes, fees, 1 day credit) they offered me first, which i said was not good enough

My 3 mo. free trial just ended on Wednesday, and I recieved my renewal information in the mail. 15$/mo - or 165$/year... yah right. How did you guys go about negotiating for a deal like 28$/6 months, and who did you contact?

Love to renew, but Im not playing 15$ a month

My trial ends this weekend. I called them up and gave them the radio ID. They offered to sign me up for the "most popular plan" at 15/month. I said no thanks I want 5 months for 24.99. They said no problem, what's your credit card number. Really easy.

I think it's been about a year- they wouldn't give me a deal for a renewal so I told them to cancel me. It slipped my mind to call back, and they never turned it off. So I've been listening for free. Honestly except for my wife's eighties channel and Opie & Anthony, I never really listen anyway. And now that Anthony was fired...

Seems like XM has been adding talk and sliding little ads in lately. I would go for it for $5 a month but anything over that I will use my iPod.

NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR CC NUMBER (unless you CC is going to expire before your XM subscription) LOL
Paper Billing Only

I had received the renewal notice quite a while back and held on to it. Called them today (day before renewal), number is on renewal notice. Couple of prompts when you call to get to the Cancel dept. First guy sounded like a complete idiot and we got "disconnected". Called back and got someone who sounded better on the phone. My renewal was also going to be $185/yr (including fees). Told them that was way too much and cancel me. They offered $99 for the year and I said "I don't know, still seems like too much, I only listen to a couple of channels", then I was offered the $27/6 months.

Just ignore them for about 1-2 months after that they will start sending you better deals, 5 months for $25 or something similar. Always pay by check or use a 1 time use card so they can't auto renew. Then do the dance all over again. I've been doing t that way for 3 years and have never paid more than $50 per year. The key is you have to be willing to go without for a month in between offers. For me it's no big deal.

I have never gone without it. I call day before renewal date to "cancel". I do let them have the CC number, but I always make note of the renewal date so I don't let it auto-renew at the ridiculously high rate.
