XM set up help!

Hello! I have just bought a 2007 4Runner, SR5 and have the factory stereo in it--it is NOT a JBL system that is 'satellite-ready' but I desperately want to have XM run through my factory system, not an after market 'add on'. Is there any way to do this w/o having to get the Toyota JBL system from the factory put in? I have seen all of these "XM Kits" but from everything I have read, you must have a factory unit that is "satellite-ready"--is that correct? Then I will have to buy the kit that corresponds to my unit and install it that way. If anyone knows of any other way to do this or if this is not correct, please let me know.

Also, if anyone knows where I can buy a Toyota JBL, satellite-ready factory unit (or if anyone has one for sale), I would greatly appreciate the information in case I have to go that route. Thanks so much for everyone's help in advance!

One more thing I would like to add--I have noticed there is a 'link' on this forum for people to post pictures of installs that they have done along the same lines as what I am wanting to do, but noticed it has been quite awhile since these have been posted--does anyone have any pics of a recent install on a 2006 or 2007 4 Runner they could share? Not sure what you mean exactly about "not an after market 'add on'" but you should be able to do better than patching XM into your radio from the antenna.

I purchased a unit months ago to connect my ipod to my radio....

This connected directly into my radio via the existing unused cd changer connector. The sound quality is great, better than any other option I'm aware of....

We recently picked up xm radio and I purchased a Inno receiver that is used in the home and car be used in the car. I went back to gromaudio and they suggested adding an extension cable from the "box" behind the dash to allow switching the ipod cable to a RCA connection option.

They sent a connector like the ones on this page with RCA connectors for $ 5.00.

I installed it over the weekend and need one more part, a ear piece connector with female connectors (circuit city) and I'm connected.

You could use this option. And there are other options if you search further here....good luck

One of the Terk XM units may work with your stereo, it worked fine with the non JBL one in my 07 Sport. My 07 came with the 6 disk changer, don't know how different the single disk one may be. If that wouldn't work for you, I have a spare Scion T1807 radio I'd sell, it was advertised if the for sale section but no one was really interested, so I was just keeping it for a spare. Hope that info helps.

Thank you so much for the great info, it helps me tremendously! I am very interested in the Scion T1807 unit you have for sale--how much are you asking? After doing more research, I agree that this is the best looking (closest to factory) head unit and will probably go this route. If I get the Scion unit, what other components will I need to complete the set up for XM other than the Terk system? Does the TERK come complete so that once I have that and the Scion head unit, I will be set for install? Let me know about the unit you have for sale and I will email you direct with my email address to work out the details.

The Terk unit is complete with everything you need, this link has info on it. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24950 The unit itself can be bought from here http://store.xmfanstore.com/xmdirect.html , the price has recently gone up to $160, I believe you need the XMDTLK one.

If you are interested in the T1807 I have, send me an email to [email protected], I'd let it go for $50 shipped in the lower 48. It is the single CD radio with the one volume control in the center of it. Does not have iPod control or color change, but does play MP3 and WMAs. Also has the Scion sound processing.

Great news! Two questions: does the unit have security code? I understand you have to have that in order for it to work.
Also, do you have a picture of the unit you are selling?
