Info on long term Xreas
I have a 2007 4x4 with 126000 Kms (78000 miles) and the Xreas is still in good condition.
The first 5 years/50000 miles the truck had a very easy life, driven in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. Although the traffic is among the worst in North America, Vancouver's roads are among the best/smoothest and the temperature is always very moderate. Truck was never off road. So the Xreas was in great condition.
I purchased the truck at 50000 miles and moved to the Yukon (boarding Alaska) shortly after. I have put almost 30000 miles of "severe conditions" driving on it since moving to the Yukon and the Xreas seems to be holding up well. It has survived the rough roads and highways of the north, decent amount of off roading, lots of rough dirt road miles and driving in extreme low temperatures (below -50F)... Can't say the same for my radiator, froze solid last winter and broke apart in a bunch of places... Got lucky with the engine block because it has a heater.
My biggest Xreas test was hitting a very very big dip in the road at 50 mph on a remote Yukon road last summer, the truck jumped completely off the ground and landed hard bottoming out all four wheels with a thud. Had a decent load in the truck at the time and was lucky to keep control. I actually stopped to check if fluid was pouring out of the shocks/Xreas system.
The truck has never been in a road salt area as Vancouver doesn't really get snow and they don't use salt in the Yukon because it is too cold. For anyone with Xreas in a road salt area I would recommend undercoating, undercoating and more undercoating as the whole system lives in the line of road salt fire. I would guess that would be the number one Xreas killer.
I am impressed with Xreas so far and like the ride quality. I will likely change over to bilstein 5100 when Xreas starts to leak or earlier.
