XREAS problem

Ah that sucks man. I dont know much about the XREA's but that doesn't sound to good. I'd have the dealer check it out when your buddy's finished just for peace of mind (maybe).
 
You'll want to replace the shocks (4) and the 2 resevoir sections. These are all self pressurizing lines so you shouldn't have to rebleed the lines like brake lines.

I highly recommend that you have the tire shop send it into a Toyota dealership and have them reinstall the xreas lines w/o the spacer and do the spacer install correctly afterwards.

I am about to order a 2" cornfed kit from burtman and had also thought about having a shop do the install. I'm scared the same thing will happen to my install.

So what is the best way to explain the install to a shop? Tell them to not to disconnect the Xreas lines? What else should be told to a shop when dealing with Xreas? and tips?

I'm sure most shops are oblivious to an Xreas system. How can I make sure they don't screw up the install??
 
do it yourself. there are plenty of info available that you can easily just pick up some hand tools and get the job done.

The cornfed includes clear instructions for XREAS 4runners. it's just a matter of following/reading instructions! Is not brain surgery. The reason I did it at my local Firestone is because I have a life-time alignment. Since I have to do one after the lift... you know.

Just tell the mech not to mess with the line.

...or do it yourself. I would have done it with the forum gang, but I can't make it this weekend.

btw... oblivious is about right. Actually it's more like "never heard of it", that is including the dealers. I've called 7 different dealers and most didn't know about it, put me on hold to find someone that knew or didn't have time to talk to me. Of the 7 that I called, only one had some experience with it. They'll call me back tomorrow. Is this system such a mystery?

Yeah, I'm surprised how many dealers really know nothing about the system. I guess if they haven't had to fix it, they don't know anything about it. Try calling Northridge Toyota.. I know there are guys there who know their stuff.
 
If you get the TSM (Toyota Service Manual) it clearly states how to disconnect and reconnect a XREAS system. So atleast you know you can do it yourself safely.

I know someone that has taken off the xreas system (completely) and then reinstalled it with no ill effect. So atleast you know it can be done safely.

Yeah... for someone that has a brain. lol

My mechanic just disconnected at the shock absorber.

You're correct about taking it off safely. It can be done by removing at the check valves, which is near the center(bottom) of the car. I got the pages that describe the system. I'll post it later so you guys can see it. For those sleepless nights...
