Well, the only thing I can say is that you are in the minority if you think that's true. The Yankees were big favorites to win the WS because of the fact that they had a much more talented team. Even the stats support the Yanks as the more talented team. The Yankees topped the Philly in just about every measurable stat in baseball, which doesn't happen because of heart, but rather talent. So you are welcome to your own opinion, but just realize that baseball fans across the country will disagree with you (unless maybe you're in Eastern PA) :biggrin2:

Hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard. Yanks worked harder. .

I was just chatting with a friend (and fellow Yankees fan) earlier today about how poorly the Yankees played in the World Series. It's actually surprising that they could play that poorly and still win. Seriously, the team overall was very good defensively, but their offense was mediocre at best. Guys like Tex and Cano did nothing offensively during the entire series. Swisher and Cabrera were also slumping at the plate for most of the series. Even A-Rod started the series horribly, but made up for it with some solid at-bats in key moments.

If the Yankees were firing on all cylinders like they were after the All-Star break, the WS would have been over in 4 straight games. It was frustrating as a Yankees fan to watch them struggle at the plate over and over again, even against average pitchers like Pedro. All players slump sooner or later, but with a power line-up like the '09 Yankees, they are still a dangerous team because every single hitter is capable of scoring multiple RBIs and/or homeruns.

The sheer arrogance of Yankee fans and your post are unfathomable to rest of the known play ball universe "baseball fans across the country............" that kind of rancor which is incorrect and just dumb is why the baseball community does not bow down to pinstripes. Below is one of many columns from your local paper which attempts to correct the hubris. fyi when the "rest of the country" reads stuff like your post we just shake our heads. What won the series for the Yankees was a startling performance by the Matsui without which your team would have won exactly ****. sorry man, it's just the whole NY thing..........ya know...........there are other articles in the New York papers that talk about the talent the Phils brought to the series. But the Yanks worked harder, and won. Congrats but seriously, keep that whole "we are the champions thing" for the rest of your combaneros downtown. Your team deserved to win. Congrats.

By the way, it should be a good season next year with everyone aiming to dethrone the Empire or at least give the Emperor some knickers.

Call it arrogance if you want, but number don't lie. The '09 Yankees were the most talented team in the MLB. They had the most wins by far, the most home runs, etc... That spells talent. If they didn't win the WS, it would have been shocking to me. But like I said, sometimes luck plays a part too. Luckily for the Yankees, they didn't have to deal with too much bad luck and they even had some good luck at times.

You can keep saying it was because they "worked harder", but I'll continue to believe that the Philly players worked just as hard. Unfortunately, they weren't as talented of a team as the Yanks. BTW, your opinion that they didn't work as hard comes across as disrespectful to each and every player on the Phillies. I'm sure if you could sit down and actually talk to the members of th team, they would tell you that they gave each and every game their very best effort and worked as hard as possible. Sometimes you play as hard as you can and you still lose because you're facing a better team. And that's the bottom line.

You're obviously a biased Red Sox fan, with a deeply rooted hatred for the Yankees and Yankees fans, so I can't blame you for your opinion in this thread. But that's okay, you don't have to acknowledge that the '09 Yankees were the most talented team in the league this year. You can chalk it up to them "working harder" or "luck", or "big payrolls" or whatever you want. But in the end, they are still the champs this year, despite any of your opinions. And in my opinion, then won it all on talent. So go ahead and keep making excuses while we all celebrate here in New York.
