(YATBS) Yet Another Tundra Brake Swap question

Hello everyone,

I would like to know if the 2004 Sequioa Limited brake calipers are similar to the Tundra brake calipers that you guys use to "upgrade" 3rd gen T4R's brake. I bought the Sequoia 5 split spoke from a guy with a wrecked 2004 Sequoia and he also have the calipers available. If these are the coveted calipers, what are the things should I make sure to take from the parted out Sequoia. I will get new sets of pads and rotors. Also, how much did you guys pay for the used rotors you installed on your T4R's?

The Sequioa's also used the larger calipers, yes. The stamp on them is the only way to tell if they're 13we (199) or 13wl (231) calipers, as far as I know. I run the 199's (I don't tow, didn't see a need for the 231's) and I love them.

As for parts- if you're getting new pads and rotors just grab the calipers, that's all you'll need. Grab all the bolts involved off the Sequoia too, just for some extras. Extras are good, when they're planned.

I paid $80 for my used 199 calipers.

I don't think many people use the old rotors... Mostly buy new.

Thanks for the info Alex. I found a remanufactured calipers on Amazon, their brand is Raybestos. Not sure how close these to the OEMs and if they're any good. They retail for $95 each.

Depending on your level of honesty, your average Autozone employee won't know the difference between a Tundra caliper and a 4Runner caliper... You could (as many have) buy the Tundras, swap them out, and return the 4Runners as your core.

I read a good bit prior to doing the swap... In my reading it seemed that a good portion (if not all) of the reman's used OEM Toyota cores. With that, I just bought the Autozone brand, whatever that was, I forget. (My OEM ones seized, pretty common, it seems. Mostly on 4th gens.)

I recommend a coat of paint on the calipers if you buy the remans. Surface rust is a very common issue on them. And the paint looks neat =p

Thanks Alex for the very useful info.
