yearly bonus.. what to do..

Soo.. being a lucky member of the military who actually recieved a bonus, I have a tough decision to make this year..

I've got a 2006 Sr5/v6 4x4, and I want to replace my front bumper (kind of need to due to a minor run in with a very narrow stone gate to a driveway) and I want to go with the Shrockworks set up. Being that it's a bit heavier than the stock front bumper, I know I need to put a better suspension underneath as well. I know OME is a pretty common option, but I'd like to have a 3/2 lift, and most of what I've seen is a 2/1 with the OME. With the Shrockworks front end, which springs am I going to need to support the extra weight? I'm a bit new to this stuff, but want to do the work myself.. and after trolling through this sight for awhile reading, I feel like I can, just want to make sure I get the right parts to start with.

You'll want the 886 front coil/spring set for the front and 895 coils w/ N141 shocks for the rear.

If you want a better setup with more adjustability and better ride quality, you can get coilovers instead of OME.

If you plan on getting a SW bumper I would order it now since it's a 2-3 month lead time.

Thanks for the help. I'm in the process of moving back to the US, so as soon as I have an address in California (where i'm moving) I'll place the order..

as for Coil overs.. did some quick looking.. and now i'm thinking about a SAW set up.

Icon is better than SAW if you don't mind a little extra $$. You'll also be able to get matching rear parts. The rear SAW parts don't work well. Their coils only lift 1.5" and their shocks ride very poorly. If you went Icon you could get their coilovers, rear coils, and rear shocks.

I had SAW and wasn't thrilled with how they rode. I now have KING remote resi's front and rear.

Are you stopping at the bumper, or will you be adding winch, dual battery, etc? If you are adding all of that, you'll need stiffer coils on the coilovers. (Switch from 650lb coils to 700lb coils).

I looked at the Icon.. pricey.. but they do seem to be pretty nice.. found a site that has front Icon's with total chaos uca's for an okay price i think.. If i put new UCA's and a 2.5 to 3" lift on the front am I going to need to drop the front diff? how much benefit would i get from remote resi's in the icon setup? Don't want to have to re-enlist again to pay off my suspension!

yeah, was planning on putting a winch up there and maybe dual battery as well. did you install your sw yourself? how tough was it if you don't mind..

UCA's will make the truck less prone to wander at higher speeds, and will allow for larger tires without needed wheel spacers. It'll also allow you to get your alignment back to almost stock after a lift.

Remote resi's keep the shock cooler when run for long periods of time with the suspension constantly cycling (fast desert runs over washes, whoops, etc).

Our trucks can do 2.5-3" fine without needed the diff drop. It does almost nothing, but a buddy of mine is doing it anyways since they are so cheap and it can't hurt to be too safe.

The bumper was not that hard, we just hit a lot of little snags which added up.

Wheelersoffroad.com is a good place to check prices:

that's actually the site I had been looking at. Okay, so you've talked me into it.. going to go with the Icon's. Might as well right? I see you have the camburg uca's, how do you like them? they're 50 bucks cheaper than the Total Chaos's for the front.. should I also get new UCA/LCA for the rear?

not sure if I'm going to be doing any desert running.. I'm just getting into the off roading stuff.. esp now that I'm heading to Norcal.. so not sure if i can justify the price diff on the rear resi's..

thank you for all the help, i know i have a ton of questions.. esp since I'm just getting started..

I will forever recommend TC over Camburg. That's just my own preference. Quality wise, they are identical so you might as well save $50.

You don't need rear UCA or LCA. I am going to eventually upgrade mine, but I still run the stock ones for now. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

You don't need the remote resi's, so you can save the money there as well. I beat the hell out of my rig on some of the trails so the resi's have actually helped on a few occasions. For most cases, they aren't necessary. KING doesn't make shocks or coilovers without the resi's, which is why I have them.

Any questions that I can help you with, I will. So keep 'em coming!

sorry, posting from work and got busy.. anyhow.. i think i'm decided.. going to go with the icon coilover's in front with the camburg uca, and in the back the IVD rear shock/spring combo.. though, going to have to get my post office box set up first..so probably won't actually order for a couple weeks (shipping my truck out by the end of oct...hopefully it's in cali before I am.)

What benefit do you get from aftermarket Upper Control Arms? I'm new to this game.
With rear adjustable upper control arms, you gain the ability to adjust your pinion angle. When you lift a vehicle with a suspension lift, the rear output (whether it be from the transmission or the t-case) is raised with respect to the rear differential. This difference can cause problems (vibrations) with the driveline angles...specifically with the u-joints that allow these angles to be present. When you add rear upper adjustable control arms, you can rotate the top of the axle upward, which will reduce the angle on the u-joints and help you eliminate any driveline vibrations.

stash the cash
Agreed!:)
