Yes! Bilstein 5100/ FJ Springs Done

Hi guys. So today I got everything done.
Originally had FJ Shocks/Springs (Tokico) with Daystar 1/1.5 spacer.

I have a WAAG brushguard, I wanted the fronts to be a bit more firmer. But waiting for OEM FJ Bilsteins are so painful and not readily available for sale, I opted for the Bilstein 5100s

I left the rear Daystar Spacer 1.5 in
Fronts are setup at the 2nd notch from the bottom which I believe is 0.85' lift + FJ Spring (gives a bit more) -

Later this month, I plan to install 275/70/17 BFGs

Looks nice, how do you like the ride with the bilsteins so far? I have a similar setup but no lift in the back (other than 1/4" or whatever I got from fj springs).

Do you plan on moving the front setting higher when you get tires? I almost went with 275/70 BFG ATs but didn't want to lift anymore and I didn't think they'd fit in the front without it. I had to trim the back of the fender flare and move the liner forward to stop the 265/70 ATs from scrubbing in the front when turning and a little flexed or on a hill.

I cant go any higher in the back. The frot i can go one more notch up but i like the way it sits right now.

I really want to fit 275/70/17 but if not i could settle for 265/75/17


The ride is firmer in a better way but it may be a tad bit firmer for some people. I used to ride lowered cars and bumpy rides dont boter me.


Btw fj shocks and daystar 1 inch frot and 2.5 inch fronts are for sale. Ill let ir go for dirt cheap

It will go away after a month or two...until its perfect! When new, I can only feel it sometimes uncomfortable at speed bumps, now its just how I expected it...less body roll, and no more nose dive.. Your ride should be better because of the FJ springs.

I was even thinking about getting OME springs for the fronts.. any comments on that?

IMO the FJ Springs would suffice(being thicker than OEM). Bilstein didn't recommend installing 5100 shocks with aftermarket springs unless adjusted to the lowest setting . And besides, you can go up to 1.75" when needed... And cranking it to the highest is IMO uncomfortable, it is also a "Preload" style lika spacer. So, .85" and 1.75" settings.. I think is a comfortable ride on or off road.

Net Lift can vary, ex., setting it to .85" plus factory springs can have a 1.25" front lift in a V8. With FJ springs it will have a 1.75" or more lift.

So sure, FJ spring is enough for that brush guard and no need for OME springs, unless you are really into offroading or have a heavy bumper, lights, and dual batt in front.

I'll just keep what i got have.. this modding never stops.. always trying to fine tune things... lol

I just need to work on tire sizes... still debating brands and sizes... i thought i was set on BFG 275/70/17 but i think it may not fit.... plus it is an odd size.. Going wider is priority then max out the side wall as much as possible.

I know some people run 265/75/17 has been a very popular setup... i just want wider width while gaining a little more on the sidewall..

How much approx lift you've got in front and rear?( I'll be getting FJ springs also).
So you have:
- Bils 5100@ .85" plus FJ Springs in Front = ? " of lift
- Bils 5100 plus FJ Springs rear = ? " of lift

Looks nice, as for the 275/70/17 BFGs.....I am installing a set in a little more than a week. I will be installing the Toytec Ultimate lift kit w/ Icon rear shocks Sa****ay the 10th. Going to do the lift myself.

Sunday is the day I will likely be putting the tires on, they are going on Pro comp 7105s 17x8 rims. I am dead set on the 275/70/17s...265s are smaller than I want and the 285s were a little large for all of the highway driving I do.

Watch for my upcoming thread, the project starts in a little more than a week and will have lots of pictures I am sure. The 275s are an E rated tire, but I am going to take a gamble, its a truck after all is what I am telling myself.

Toyotec kits are nice.. But i never do off roading so overkill for my sothern california highway driving purpose.
