Yes you can carry an extension ladder

I was just over using a folding ladder. I needed to be able to safely carry an extension ladder. I knew it was possible but I wanted to do it right. i finally found the right rack. This is a Vantech j2000. It even came in silver and matched my 4runner. I'm carrying a 24' in this picture but I will be upgrading to a 28' soon. Quality is excellent. He said I can even get a bike mount for it.

Looks nice! I carried my 22' on the stock rack with a lot of rope and it was seriously deficient. It was just a few miles on back roads in a minor emergency to help a friend after Sandy. She had a limb hanging off her chimney.

Yeah I tried the stock rack and it was terrible. This thing is solid.

Yeah, stock rack has some flex to it, but I was comfortable making a short trip with these 3 ladders tied down with ratcheting straps. I've done this many times.

Hope, you guys can help me out. I am very picky about deciding which ladder to purchase. I have a long ladder to reach the second floor gutter, but it is too heavy to carry, put it up and move when it leans on the gutter. I'm considering a few options from here https://mentoolbox.com/the-best-extension-ladders/ but really don't know which one to get

I use ladders all the time, mainly cause I inspect roofs for insurance claims. I'd consider the ladders primary use. Sounds like weight for moving along gutters is your main concern. Just buy a lightweight ladder. I have a couple Werner ladders, built well, and you can get them in different weight classes. I also use telescopics, I have 3 of those by Xtend&Climb but longest you can get on those is 15.5 feet. Good luck, and don't fall off.

Dude, I stick a 40 ft ladder on the stock rack occasionally. I run double stacked 32 ft and 24 ft all the time. I doubled up the factory cross rails, I have 4. If you strap it on right with ratchet straps it holds 90 mph on the highway with cross winds.

Not exactly an extension ladder, but I have one of those Werner 'Little Giant style' telescoping ladders. 22" at full extension/reach, but when collapsed, it fits perfectly in the back of the 4runner with one of the back seats down, like it's made for it. I only have to lower the passenger side seat, and there's maybe an inch of play between the ladder, the bottom of the seat, and the rear hatch.
