Yet another tire question.. 285/70

So i currently have 35x12.50x17, and i have basically all the trimming necessary to get me by on a day to day basis. However when it comes to wheeling, i constantly rub on something, and it seems like theres not way to get rid of it with only 4 inches of total lift.

So instead of me having to trim a whole bunch more, im thinking of getting 285/70/17 tires.

I always see people talk about them fitting and having to do minor trimming.
I'm not worried about that at all, as i've had to trim basically everything for 35s. I'm more interested in if they rub while wheeling/flexing.

I'm wanting a tire that is big enough to look good and perform well off-road, but also small enough to where i don't rub ever

This all depends on wheel offset...

Have you done all of the following:

-Body mount chop
-Extended bump stops
-Body lift 1"/1.5"

After then you can start trimming. An aftermarket bumper would help too, but i don't think its necessary if you're ok with trimming the original bumper.

A description or some pictures of where it is still rubbing might help us. You could also try 305/70R17 tires as a lot of issues with rubbing comes from tire width

I have done body mount chop
1 in body lift
Aftermarket bumper
Aftermarket fenders
I'm pretty sure I rub in the pinch weld.
But my sure what else

Going from a 35x12.5x17 to a 285/70/17 which is a 32.7" is a HUGE difference. You absolutely wouldn't get any rubbing after that i'm sure. You're also going from 12.5" wide to 11.2"

Your already balls deep in fitting 35s.. Why go back now? Pinch weld can be beaten back and trimmed with a BFH. Then sealed with RTV silicone... If all else fails how about a 305 70 r17 or 295 70 r17?

I think i also rub on part of the front sway bar..

I have 285/70's on mine, small lift, no spacers and rub on the sway bar and everywhere when off-road when stuffed.

I was also wanting to get the 285s so I can take my body lift off.
I forgot to mention had a body lift when I ordered my bumper, so there's a gap.
And if I got rid of my body lift, that would take care of that gap.

I'd love to keep the 35s, but it seems like so much work and trimming to make it capable

What about removing the bumper and adding plate behind it to fill the gap? I can't imagine taking off the body lift. I want one bad but local shop wants to charge me $1000 to install.

285/75/16 fully stuffed. Doesn't rub to bad at all. If I lower my bumps 3/4 of in inch it will be golden.

Take it off! :tongue1:

Space your wheels out further, but you already have aftermarket wheels.

Limit your steering angles.

Drop your sway bar links down further?

Where does it rub? Mine rubs when the wheels are at full turn.

I run even when not at full turn, everything just locks up and the traction control light comes on

I don't have a front sway bar. I'm running constant load front springs with foam cells, and in back I also have no sway bar, with metal tech HD long travel. At full compression the rear rubs. I also have 3.50 backspaced scs wheels. The fonts will rub if I come down hard but that's it. Handles like a dream, smooth as silk over the rough stuff.
