Yet another vibration mystery...

My '99 has the same vibration issues. I always thought it was the wheels/tires, but then I had new wheels/tires installed and the problem persisted. A few people said it could be steering rack bushings, but I am eager to try this solution.

Can you offer any insight to the lube/additive? Do I have to take off the diff cover ?

I replaced mine a while back hoping it would help my vibrations, but it didnt. It tightened my steering a little, but the vibrations were still there, hate to say it. Steering rack bushing would cause you more trouble over bumbs, making the front end feel sloppy. But if your vibration is consistent when driving down the highway, its doubtful the rack bushing are the cause.

YEAH!! I'm interested too in this mystery additive. LSD diffs were'nt used in these years 4runner or Tacomas. Maybe he means sawdust additive.

There's some rattling over bumps, maybe the steering rack bushing will help like you said.

My vibration issue has been pretty frustrating. If a road is smooth, I don't have any issues, but on "corduroy" highways it happens at various speeds then will just stop.

right on, i would get up to speed then put in neutral and see if shake goes away. there is a TSB on the transmission crossmember being out of wack, and you gotta replace with a new one that is at more of a slant and lowers your exhaust sheild. i did one at work and it cured a truck.

ludog, do you have the info on the TSB? can you just look at the cross members to see if it has been applied?
i have been chasing a vibration through mine for quite a while now as well. not so much in the steering, but about 30 and 60 it is the worst. and some times when i am maintaining speed at a low rpm i get what almost feels like a sruging, but not as violent as i would expect from the engine missing.
