Yeti 400 to power fridge? alternative to dual battery

So you can just hook those solar panels straight up to the deep cell battery and go that route? I'm installing a group 34 odyssey tomorrow and I like that route.

You need a charge controller for the solar panels, some panels come with them but for a plain panel you will need a controller

As stated...i think you're over thinking it...forget the alternator upgrade, don't need it. Forget the Yeti...dont need it.

Get yourself a good group 31 AGM...a 100 watt panel and a decent MPPT 10 amp controller...and if you're worried about getting stranded...a little ion jump pack.

Withb the panel hooked to the battery, there's no need to trickle charge...panel does all the work.

I just graduated to a 51L TruckFridge from the group buy and kind of put the cart before the horse with regards to power. So far I've "upgraded" my main battery to a group 27 for a bit more capacity (The mods to make the 31 fit weren't in the cards). I ran some new 6awg from the front to the back with Anderson connectors.

Since I had some leftover 18Ah batteries from the kids toys I added a pair (36 more Ah). This is sort of my Yeti 400 equivalent. The fridge had it's own low voltage cutoff so there's no need for an external.

So far no solar but that's possibly in the cards too. I've only got an old 50W panel a really inefficient charge controller. There's no real use in adding this to the system for now.

At the moment I'm hoping to hop from 110AC power to a long and slow drive for battery charging. I added an old Schumacher 1.5A charger I had in the pile too. For now, in the campground or at home the fridge runs on AC while topping off the main/external battery and also the emergency jumpstarter pack.

With the holiday weekend around the corner I'm hoping for some backcountry camping with a day or two of wheeling to test out the setup.

I have used my Yeti 400 like this for the last couple of years and it will work great. I use a Renogy 100w solar suitcase for those days when I wont be driving enough to replenish the yeti.

May I ask which cable you have to charge your Goal Zero 400 with the Renogy 100W panels?

I have a dual battery setup in my 4th Gen, but in my 5th gen, I just use a home made battery pack that uses 18650 batteries.

Its pretty easy to make something portable and small that will run the fridge overnight EASY

May I ask which cable you have to charge your Goal Zero 400 with the Renogy 100W panels?

I use the same setup. I have a solar ssuitcase without controller. I use a goal zero 8mm 20’ extension cable with a MC4 to 8mm adapter.

I do have an external controller if I need to charge truck or trailer battery. Just don’t try charging yeti400 with a solar suitcase built in controller.
