Yoko experience?

Hey guys, I just ordered the toytech 3inch front spacers with the OME 895 rear springs and looking to get rid of my H/T tires I have now. I have been doing a decent amount of research the past couple of days and the Yokohama Geo's have been catching my eye. My car is a daily driver but i enjoy venturing around the state of Georgia on the weekends. I was curious if anyone had any experience with the Geo M/T or A/T, how the treadwear lasted, and which would be the best bet for the combo of the trails and the roads, or if anyone had some other suggestions on anyother brand tires that are middle of the road priced. Basically something that i can trust driving around town and romping through the woods without hesitation.

I had the AT +II on my '97 Runner and they were a solid tire and great dry grip but at the cost of a little quicker wear. Off road they did the job and the softer tire compound is a plus going over rocks as they conform to the rock with reduced tire pressure nicely and really grip nicely.

I almost bought the same for my '99 but I heard good things about the Nittos and don't regret getting them for one minute as they are a tad better in the ice and snow (hydroplane resistance was a little better with the Yoks) and overall on street performance is a bit better and the Nittos will last a bit longer.

The Nittos are rated at a 500 treadwear and the Yoks are a grippy 380. The Yoks do carry a pro rated mileage warranty of 50k I think tho'.

I think you should give the Nittos a shot since they are competitively priced with the Yoks.
With the Nittos I get better road feel and with the D rated sidewalls they have less flex than the Yoks which is better for highspeed control and off road they seem to handle the abuse of rock rash better than the Yoks.

I have almost 15k on mine and more than a few trail runs and two full winters and I really am happy with them.

Thanks for the information man, it was helpful. I was looking at the Nittos the other night online and they are as well very well priced. I live down in Georgia though so the trails consist of a lot of mud and i was wondering if you could let me know how the nittos held up in the mud?

My Nittos do ok for the occassional mud pit session but they any AT tire won't be as good as a MT tire of course. I've never had any issues with mud on the trails and have yet to be stuck in the pits so I guess they are adequate for me.

The nitto's tread wear seems to have a lot to do with whether or not they are LT or P rated. Unfortunately if you get the 265/70/17 you have to get their P rated tire. My experience with these was great performance but very fast treadwear. More than 50% already gone after less than a year and 15K miles.

Man,that's crazy wear. I have the D load rated LT Nittos and I got almost 15k on mine and look near new.

What's the tread wear rating on the P rated tires? Mine are rated at 500.

Mine are rated at 500 as well. I don't know if it is just a softer compound or what??
I would say my driving habits are average and they have been rotated every 5K (I got almost 50K out of the stock Dunlops). I really like the tires but I will probably be looking for a different set in less than a year. Something that will last longer.

My driving habits are a bit on the aggressive side and I keep my tire pressure at 35psi and still have minimal wear. If I get 40k out of mine I'll be happy.

its known that yokos will always wear faster (even given an exact same rating) than similar tires. They are just flat out softer in compound than other tires.
