Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S - Fit?

Will the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S size 265/70R17 fit my 2006 SR5 that doesn't have any lift without rubbing? I'm told that some tire profiles will rub and some won't?

Does anyone have any experience with these tires?

I just got those exact tires in that exact size installed on Friday, completely stock suspension 04 V8 4WD. They rub a really minor amount at about 90% lock while moving on even the tiniest bump or compression (but not while completely stopped). You should be able to completely prevent rubbing with just a small bit of modification of the front inner fender plastic, but I haven't bothered yet since it's so minor.

So far, these tires are AWESOME, very much more composed and stable through the crazy rain with lots of standing water we got all weekend, and almost as quiet as the stock tires.

I'm not sure what you mean by 90% lock? Glad to hear you like them, but I am really concerned about the rubbing. I know that it will drive me crazy. Maybe I should stick to the stock size. I don't feel very confident doing any fender mods.

Any suggestions for a 265/70R17 all terrain tire that doesn't rub at all?

i dont have any experience with this yet, but have done alot of research. The A/T-s is slighlty bigger than other tires, so thats the case of the slight slight rub. BFG at's would do the same. All other should be fine atleast from what I have read. Minor trimming isnt hard or dangerous, I would get the tires I wanted and fix some rubbing that is very very minimal and be happy....

How about the 255/75r17 tires? I've been reading some good things about them. The Goodyear Silent Armors look to be reasonably priced in that size.

Do the 255/75r17 tires have rubbing issues as well? Other issues I should be concerned about going to this size?

By 90% lock, I mean when you have the wheel turned almost all the way in either direction, the tread rubs against the plastic fenderwell lining -- but just at that one specific steering angle in either direction. If you go past there to full lock, or keep the wheel turned less than about 85% of max, it doesn't ever rub. And it would be very very simple to trim the plastic where it rubs.

That said, I think these tires in stock 265/65/17 would perform and ride just as well, so I wouldn't hesitate to get them in this size if you want to be sure you can just drive on them without issues. 255/70/17 could be another good option that fits without modification, but is a rare size. 255/75/17, which you mentioned also considering, would still need slight modification to fit (possibly even more than the 265/70/17).

Also, here is a breakdown I did of a few various potential tire sizes (stock vs. nearish to stock) which I considered. Measured values taken from Tirerack.com spec sheets, theoretical values taken from the Miata.net tire size calculator widget (which I use all the time for track car tires, but works for all sizes). Not sure why this info isn't in a sticky somewhere here:

Definitions:
Size (nnn/nn/nn): Width (mm) / Sidweall height ratio (%) / Rim size (inches)
Theoretical overall diameter: Ideal/expected calculated OD measurement of the given size, in inches (taken from a generic tire size calculator)
Actual/Average overall diameter: Actual measured (or average of several popular real-world A/T tires) OD in given size (includes height of deep tread blocks, thus larger than calculated OD), in inches
Actual/Average sidewall height: Actual measured (or average between several similar) A/T sidewall height, in inches
Actual/Average section width: Actual measured (or average of several) A/T sidewall width (measured at the widest part of the tire), in inches
Actual/Average tread width: Actual measures (or average of several) A/T tread width (measured at the topmost part of the tire), in inches
Speedo variance: Amount your speedometer is off: - means it reads too slow (you're actually going n% faster than speedo shows); + means it reads too fast (you're going n% slower than speedo shows)

265/65/17 (OEM Dunlops)
Theoretical overall diameter: 30.6"
Actual overall diameter: 30.6"
Actual sidewall height: 6.8"
Actual section width: 10.4"
Actual tread width: 8.0"
Speedo variance: 0%

265/65/17 (popular AT tires in OEM size)
Theoretical overall diameter: 30.6"
Average overall diameter: 30.7"
Average sidewall height: 6.9"
Average section width: 10.6"
Average tread width: 8.0"
Speedo variance: - <1% (reads negligible amount too slow until tread wears halfway down, then will be 100% correct)

275/65/17 (AT tires, common size)
Theoretical overall diameter: 31.1"
Average overall diameter: 31.3"
Average sidewall height: 7.0"
Average section width: 11.0"
Average tread width: 8.6"
Speedo variance: -1.7% (when speedo reads 60mph, you're actually going about 61mph, difference increases with speed)

255/70/17 (AT tires, uncommon size)
Theoretical overall diameter: 31.2"
Average overall diameter: 31.35"
Average sidewall height: 7.1"
Average section width: 10.2"
Average tread width: 8.0"
Speedo variance: - 1.8% (when speedo reads 60mph, you're actually going about 61mph, difference increases with speed)

265/70/17 (AT tires, common size)
Theoretical overall diameter: 31.6"
Average overall diameter: 31.8"
Average sidewall height: 7.35"
Average section width: 10.7"
Average tread width: 8.0"
Speedo variance: - 3.5% (when speedo reads 60mph, you're actually going about 62.5mph, difference increases with speed)

255/75/17 (AT tires, kind of common size)
Theoretical overall diameter: 32.1"
Average overall diameter: 32.1"
Average sidewall height: 7.5"
Average section width: 10.0"
Average tread width: 7.8"
Speedo variance: - 4.9% (when speedo reads 60mph, you're actually going about 63.5mph, difference increases with speed)

Let me know if you want me to do these calculations for any other sizes, but they'll all be further off as far as the speedo goes than these ones.
