Here is the story for that pic. Did a rebuild of the 2001 front end, new lower control arm bushings, new ball joints, new adjusters (frozen) and a rebuilt steering rack. It took a few weeks as I had to buy some tools and control arm bushings after I started. I broke the High and low power steering lines loose but could not remove the high pressure line as the nut was frozen onto the line so I pulled it off the pump itself and removed the air filter box to access it. Knowing it was not going together right away I stuffed a rag in the end of the intake to keep the critters out. A couple weeks later after the last round of a brutal fight with the front end I won and started it up to take my victory lap and bring it in to get it aligned. Crap Revs to 3000, no throttle response and giving me lots of codes. After a couple days of reading all the horror stories online about the drive by wire and difficulty of replacing the tps I decided to at least take it off and have a look. I laughed for 5 minutes at my amazing ability to fix my own stupidity when I saw the problem

That's a good one! My father-in-law did that one fall when winterizing a boat, I didn't know he did it even though I was helping him. Come spring and there was obviously something wrong he towed it all the way to the marina where they found the towel. He totally didn't remember doing that and thought I did it but the dead giveaway it was him was that he used one of his wife's tea towels not even a rag haha.

Sounds like me chasing my own butt down the wrong rabbit hole. Glad you figured it out without a ton of pain! Congrats on the fix!

What year is that rig? Never seen that type of TB till now.

Throughout the years I have found out through trial and error from DIY repair that auto repair problems can be manifested through my own hands. Not always, but it heeds to trace one’s previous steps to avoid problems as well as embarrassment.

Did something similar on my Dirtbike a few months ago. I always leave the wash plug in the exhaust during storage and transportation, and couldn't figure out why my bike wasn't running right. I had just run it the night before and it was all good, so I was afraid something broke.

Shut the bike down, start to look it over, nothing looks off....Then I sit down to have a quick sip of water and collect my thoughts and saw my BRIGHT RED "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" PULL TAB hanging off the exhaust....

LittleCeaser, That is the 2001-2002 throttle body 1500$ at your nearest toyota dealer. 200$ on eBay for a used one. Drive by wire so the 96-2000 won't work
