No. It looks like it is only 2WD. To be sure they are asking a lot for that good looking 4Runner. My guess is they will go down, just not $6,000 worth. IMHO.

I bet you could get it near 15k, especially if its only 2WD. That's low mileage for an 05, considering that it was probably bought in the later half of 04, that's less than 10,000 miles per year.

Make sure you're okay with 2WD

Dealers usually don't put that much markup on a used car. There's probably $2000 or at most $3000 of markup.

I don't think so. If they took it in on a trade, they usually rape the sellers. I bet they got it for something in the low-teens.

OP - Even if you are okay with the 2WD, why the new transmission? Those 5-sp trannys are pretty solid and I have yet to hear of a person needing a new one at 40k miles. Perhaps the other owners abused the crap out of it, and if they did enough to warrant a new tranny, other parts might be in jeopardy, too. PASS

That seems like an extremely high asking price. I highly doubt the dealer will go down 6,000. If they did, it would be reflected on your trade in vehicle price or something!

Alright... I guess I'll re-state that. If the person who traded it to the dealer knew what it was worth and didn't let themselves get taken, then there's only $2,000 or $3,000 of markup.

I still say that $6,000 is a lot to ask. They really would have had to low-ball the trade-in value for there to be that much difference.

You can get them down a good bit, as most dealerships are hurting to sell SUV's right now, but $6K is asking a lot...

I just got an 05 SR5 from a dealer. I got them down somewhere around 3 - 3.5K from the asking price. But some of that was done by them bumping up the value of my trade-in. In hind-sight, I probably left another $500 on the table... But I got a GREAT car now!

I imagine that dealership isn't letting that one go for anything less than about 16K... and that's if they are really hurting.

Oh, and I would DEFINITELY use the new tranny as a bargaining tool. Why in the world was it replaced?...

By "new transmission" I mean the 2005 4Runner's have the new 5sp tranny instead of the 4sp from '03 and '04, so that's a positive for buying that year.

You remember Katrina right? LOTS of flooded cars out there on the used market. The red flag here is that it was in Louisiana and then shipped out to Texas for auction where it was sold to the dealer. That raises some SERIOUS suspicions in my head and I'd be VERY VERY cautious on this vehicle.

Awhile back, I think CNN did a special story regarding how people are buying these flooded cars from New Orleans, restoring them to a point where they look good from the outside, and then selling at full price. They said you should look at the carpets under the seat to see if there was water damage and also check carfax. Stay away!!

Ouch... That seems really high for a '05 and options, even with low miles for the year. I would shop around, maybe try a broker.
