Your Average MPG

Hey all,

I searched for a thread such as this but couldn't find any for 4th gens. Although, I'm sure there are threads such as this one...seems to be a commonly discussed topic. Thanks to the help and input of fellow members, I removed the hydrocarbon filter and I definitely gained an MPG. As of now I average....

20.0 - 20.5 MPG city
22.0 - 23.0 MPG Highway (65-70 MPH)
2006 Sport. Flowmaster Super 40, cut resonator, straight pipe. Removed hydrocarbon filter. 265/65/17 Michelin X Radials.

I am curious to see your variants because I have been hearing numbers all across the board, from V8's with tuning getting 14-15 MPG to 6 bangers getting about where I am...I'm sure it's all relative to how your drive your vehicle. Just curious at this point.

That's insane! Now when I told you that mine was averaging 14.5 that is around town a lot and highway (75 mph) mixed. When I was stock with the BFG all terrains I was averaging 18.5, would have been 19.5 with the exhaust and even more with the hydrocarbon filter removed, so almost the same as your getting, with 2 more cylinders. 14.5 is with heavy wheels and 12.5" wide heavy mud terrains, the bumper and higher in the air.
 
On a trip this past week to go visit friends I averaged 14.6mpg on my trip computer, but after calculating it by hand I got 15.8. Usually peoples trip meters are over generous, but my bigger tires (33.5") overcame that. This was going about 75-80mph with some stop and go traffic thrown in when I was in LA and Santa Barbara.

My truck is lifted around 5 inches, 33.5" mud terrains, roof lights, roof basket, TRD catback exhaust with a custom straightpipe muffler.


On average though...

12-15 mpg city
17 mpg highway (75ish mph)
 
I'm getting 14.5 mpg on my daily stop and don't go commute. My 03 4WD V8 Limited is stock. I compute the mileage by hand (miles driven / gallons pumped). I find the computer display to be 1-2 mpg optimistic.

I'm getting about 18 city/21 highway (70-75). All calculated by hand (but the display for me is almost exactly +2 off).
 
On stock tires I averaged 15-16. With the 255/75/17 A/T's I'm getting 16-17. I've gotten better, but those are my typical numbers. My display is pretty optimisitic, it's usually showing ~19.
 
Hwy and city I get 15-16mpg, thats mostly around town all calulated by hand..

Hwy unloaded around 20mpg...

Fully loaded with 3 adults, 3 motorcycles on a trailer and all our gear, doing about 70-75mph I get 12-13mpg...

I commute about 31 miles to work one way and do some in town driving throughout the week. I average about high 15's or low 16's (figured by hand) with my V8, I try to watch my driving and keep it around 65-70 (freeway). Sacramento traffick on the freeway is crazy like all places, it is fast, slow, combination of both, all cultures and definately all driving skills.......and everyone still on the phone or texting...........drives me nuts
 
10 avg MPG on mine. If I slow down or change my tuning I'm sure I could get more.

06 V8 SR5, stock sized Cooper Discoverer ATR's.

Week to week is a pretty steady 16-17 mpg calculated by hand. I get closer to 19 if I do a lot of highway or, even better, steady 45-55 mph backroads.

All in all I lost about 10mpg going from my Accord 4cyl to this truck... I can totally live with that.

Go by hand or the gas bill. I did that and the truck computer was right. don't feel to bad for me though I have fun and get to places 1st before my friends! I'm pretty sure those tires don't help with mpg but help in not getting stuck.

Nah, they don't help but the fact that I am traveling further every rotation than the computer is thinking it might be better than I am thinking it is.
 
My last interstate run was 24 MPG on paper. Stock '07 V6 with hydrocarbon filter out. About 18 MPG on mixed local cities and town.
 
17-18 with my roof rack and ski rack on the top
20-22 without these things on top

mixed city and highway driving here in the Denver metro... ~50 mile daily commute for work :D
 
I averaged 18.1 overall driving from Houston to Chicago week before last, 70-75 the whole way. I was very happy with that! :bigok: I figured it up from receipts, but I did reset my display before I left for S&G since I did not change the speedo. It said I got 19.8. Normally my display stays at 17.4 for my daily running around. My truck is stock except the lift and 33's.
