Your Calipers Are Stalking You

I've seen the numerous stuck caliper posts and probably missed or ignored one just like this but if you haven't replaced your calipers yet, you will, and you should be proactive about it. I say that b/c if you discover a stuck caliper like I did - in the middle of a brake job - you're very limited on what you can do in terms of choosing a replacement. Most people need to get their truck back on the road ASAP and there's thus no time for research or ordering the caliper you would otherwise want to have. I was fortunate that the local AutoZone had Duralast calipers in stock that have a lifetime warranty. I was a bit put off that the left one was silver and the other a dark charcoal color but was told it just depends on what manufacturer makes them. I decided it didn't matter and they were a perfect fit.

Anyway, just a recommendation to bite the bullet and get your calipers before they get you.

Also, if you have to replace a caliper, it is a great time to just do the 5th gen brake mod! Luckily I didn't have to drive very far to work and school when mine seized up, so I could afford the time to wait for shipping. My passenger front caliper would get piping hot on even a short drive though!

And note what casting you have before you purchase two different ones from rock auto and only look at the one correct one in the box before attempting to bolt the wrong one onto the car.
This didn't just happen to me four hours ago. ok it did. But now when the new caliper gets here, it'll go in in about 20 minutes because that's how long it should take.

Also, check that the caliper inside the box is correct. NAPA had a mishap where they gave me the 13-WG (smaller) instead of 13-WH caliper for one of my fronts. It was probably an accident at the warehouse, but it cost me another trip up there after trying to install it before noticing.

Beyond that, I make a point to swap out all of my calipers every couple years, time permitting. This is practical since I bought the Eclipse calipers with the lifetime warranty. It's just unfortunate the warranty is needed.

I just had to replace both my front calipers. A1Auto had em pretty cheap and they got em to me within a couple of days.

Good idea about being proactive about caliper changes ..i didn't realize i had a stuck caliper until about 11pm after a wheel bearing job.
