Your worst nightmare

Yeah, I would have screamed bloody murder and told them to put a NEW longblock in my 4Runner or I would be contacting every local news station, the BBB (who has helped resolve two other issues I've had over the years) and any other agency willing to listen, as well as my lawyer. Or, I'd come up there with my engine hoist and a truck bed full of tools, and pull an engine from a new 4Runner on their lot myself and drag it home. Either way my 4Runner would be getting a brand new engine. I would never trust that they actually did what they were supposed to do after leaving it empty on oil. The tech must have had his head firmly planted in his rear to do that one. You drain, you refill immediately. You check the level before you start the engine. You check the level after you start the engine. You check the level one last time before you give delivery to the customer. Hell Im a lawnmower mechanic and I know this. ASE certified means nothing really, if the person with that patch on their shoulder has no common sense.

You can run any filter designed to meet the OEM specs, you can also run any aftermarket part on your vehicle and it cannot void the warranty, unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the original cause of the damage.

I DON'T think so. They are basically USELESS...As long as you pay your dues each year....they kinda look the other way if any complaints are filed against you. The BBB is NOT a government agency. The BBB is made up of companies that convince gullible people into thinking they are there for the buying public.
 
It sounds like the problem has been resolved for now, but FWIW, the agency in question was probably the Bureau of Automotive Repairs.

A friend had this happen with a new Volvo in IN several years ago. After negotiating (and threatening to get Volvo NA involved), he was able to trade in his car for what the dealership was going to sell it for and get a new one for what the dealership paid for it. He got a new car, and the dealership wasn't out-of-pocket.

It odd to hear people say BBB is useless, I've actually used them twice when I was screwed over like the OP was by a business, and both times, the moment BBB got involved, the business bent over backwards to make me happy. Both times giving me exactly what I wanted to resolve my issue. Their only downfall is it takes time with them, they are very slow with back and forth correspondance. Any BBB Accredited business wants to keep the negatives off their record, since you can look them up right on BBB's website, which puts the power of negotiation in your corner.
 
Sorry to bump a real old thread but OP if you're in Dallas would you mind PM'ing me the name of the dealer? I try not to use dealers for service but I do buy supplies from them from time to time so I like to know who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. I guess I wouldn't consider this dealer terrible but I would probably avoid them if possible.
 
if that was well documented id lawyer up probably, or at least threaten to unless i got a new engine. absolutely ridiculous. i am no ambulance chaser and even an opponent to the notion. letting someone leave the lot with no engine oil?? f in ridic.
