Agree on the sliders. My plan next year is to remove the XREAS system. Most of the sliders I want (shockworks or RCI) interfere with the hard lines for XREAS. Once removed...no issues with sliders. In the interim the boards were not terribly expensive and will serve their purpose and the rockers were required for the sliders. One other note...the auto boards do give a nice step into the truck, but do not protect the doors in parking lots as sliders (or the boards I installed) do. Need to pace myself
I plan on writing up my thoughts in the S/C thread when I hit 1K miles. Should be there next month. Quick take on it.. feels like our 4th gen V8 limited...that's a good thing to me.

i wonder if purchasing OEM or getting the shrockworks replacements are the way to go. would the shrockworks trail rocker trim work w/ other sliders? I'm assuming yes.

Just to note, your question’s double barreled. I personally like auto running boards, they swing out lower and further away from the body, making them more useful as steps compared to stationary running boards. Then again, I’ve never used a stationary running board that actually helped me enter the vehicle, they always just get in the way for me.
Like anything automated/mechanical, it’s going to have a likelihood of failing, especially compared to your standard bolt on running board or slider. So yes, they will eventually fail. Maybe the daily convenience is worth occasional maintenance? Up to you to weigh.
I’d assess your needs and go from there. If you have shorter people/kids in your life an don’t wheel hard then maybe they’re a good option for you. Just throwing out my support for the auto running boards, I think they’re pretty slick for an urban/suburban vehicle. Otherwise ya we got tons of slider options on here.
Also, some folks complain about sliders getting their pant legs wet in rain, so depending on who you are and what you do they may or may not be a good option. Hope that helps. If it’s between auto running boards and standard running boards, I’d go auto all the way for their increased functionality.

I went OEM for fit & finish and somewhere on here someone mentioned rust propensity on the SW trim when scratched. Yes, generally SW trim is compatible with other sliders, but I would give them a call to double-check if you have a particular slider you want.

Looks like you were able to get quite a bit of sidewall on there. What size tires are you running? Any rubbing or did you have to modify the fender lining?
Very nice looking T4R Limited. Just bought one myself about a month ago--2018 Limited in Blizzard White Pearl.
Did you install any lift when you went to the larger tires? Any rubbing or other issues?
Thanks! And nope, totally stock. Zero rubbing, I read quite a bit on here before determining I was safe to go ahead with the swap. I've had BFGs on both an 05 4Runner (KO) and 07 Tundra (KO2).
Haven't really tested these yet, but reviews seem to favor the Falkens. I had issues with BFGs being slippery in wet conditions, alarmingly so at times, and read these were better. Pretty much sealed the deal for me, as I live in Houston and...it rains quite a bit. I also frequent Southern CO pretty regularly, so the versatility + snowflake is nice I suppose. Have chains anyway. Most of the time this will be on hunting / farm roads / pasture. Looking forward to a trip to PINS at some point as well.
Don't plan to do far too much more in terms of the vehicle. Remove running boards (gf tall enough to not affect her entry, which would be only concern), maybe a roof rack, and maybe mod the lighting a bit. Just love the car.
275/55/20s, with total ET of 0. Because of the offset, some liner rubbing on full lock, so I did have to do some mods. Not too severe, though.
