Navigate to the page below on the device and you will see how you can set the parameters. It's a bit tedious but you'll get the hang of it quickly. It helps to have the info shared above printed and with you. I did it while waiting for my son's dentist appointment. I Googled Ultragauge Mgauge Programming or something on my phone.

Menu > Gauge/Page Menu... > Select Gauge/Page > M Gauge Setup.

Select an unused MGauge page (I used 1) and start pushing buttons to edit fields.

You can turn the ultraguage on with the key on engine off by pressing or holding the top button on the back. Just an FYI since it took me a year to figure that out on my own lol

The EM plus and MX are essentially the same thing but the MX has the option to make custom gauges which you need in order to add the transmission fluid temp gauge. They both navigate/display the same information with the exception of the custom gauges (MX only) and readiness monitors/performance data (EM Plus only). I have the MX and consider it worth the extra $10 to get the ability to monitor transmission fluid temps. I don't think readiness monitors or the performance tracker exclusive to the EM Plus to be useful for me.

From their FAQ section:
"How is the UltraGauge MX different from the EM plus?
The EM Plus and the MX are identical, except that each provide the following additional features:



Ultragauge MX: Ability to access manufacturer parameters, if manufacturer codes are known.

Ultragauge Plus: Readiness Monitors & Performance Functions



The additional features in the EM Plus are not available on the MX, and the MX feature is not available on the EM Plus."
