has anyone rigged an UltraGage to their 5VZ> ?

Picked up an Ultra-Gage and i admit the thing is quite confusing.

Plugged it into my Pontiac G8GT and it screwed up the transmission!

The 99 5VZ is much simpler and i had hoped to use this as a "guage pack" so i can monitor oil PSI , Coolant temps, trans temp and engine vacuum .

Does anyone have one successfully installed in their 3rd gen? I prefer not to chase my tail in circles, is it doable?

I've used an Ultra gauge with my 97 for many years without any issues. There are several other 3rd gen owners on here using them as well. I've never read/seen any issues caused by an Ultra gage (on any vehicle for that matter).

There is no oil pressure sensor or MAP sensor on the 5VZ, so no-go there via OBD-II. Not sure if the ultra-gauge can do trans temp. A scangauge II/III can - with the right codes and only on '99-'02 years.

Correct, no trans temp on the Ultragauges. Been running one for 13 years, and the screen is starting to die, but you can do around 90 different gauges within it, including MPG, RPMs, engine temp, intake temp, device temp, torque, etc... Fantastic for the money.

That Aussie Holden is a very unique creature, so consider it an "oddball". The UG put the trans in "limp" mode and it was almsot freewheeling. Thankfully it reset itself. It also has no engine montoring guages ( temp is all) . Odd for a hopped up LS.

Sorry to hear about trans temps. I replace the trans temp sensor, so i assumed it would give the UG an input. Dont plan on any towing etc, other than a pop up.

I rigged a manual oil pressure guage in the engine bay. I;d like to swap that out to an electric with a guage in the cockpit at the least if the UG doesn't monitor oil pressure.

I love the Ultragauge, and have it mounted right in my field of view. I got so used to having it, I rarely look at the other gauges.

I find it most useful for monitoring coolant temp and fuel remaining (given the 3rd Gen's highly erratic fuel gauges). What's also great about the Ultragauge is being able to setup audible alarms, so that if the coolant hose blows, you'll get an alarm of excessive coolant temp before you do damage to the motor.

BTW, the Ultragauge MX can read trans temps, in 99+ models.

I should also add that the the Ultragauge can read and clear codes.

I added trans temp to my UntraGauge with a tiny bit of 'coding' available online. I honestly forgot the process, however. 99 and up models only, as mentioned.
