who's running icons and what's up your rear?

so santa came early this year for me and my profit sharing check is coming early with him,
i'm sick to death of my OME setup and am running far far away from it, i've been eying the icon package with upper a arms and shocks in the $1500 neighbor hood..

my main question is those of you with the icons
what sort of coil are you running in the back and should i really match the rear icons shocks with the front? or can i get away with saving a few bucks and just get some billies for the rear? or is that a waste??

anyone sells an complete icon kit front, back w/ coil? also who has the largest selection for c/o's for our trucks i found a site a while back that had the saws, fox, icon, ect all under one roof and was able to mix and match with them as opposed through multiple sites

I'm running rear OME 890's and OME sport shocks.

I don't think that Icon makes any springs for our trucks, but as you know its not the spring that is the secret, its the dampener. Right now, I can't justify spending another $700 on just rear shocks.

I was actually happy with how the rear OME stuff performed in the desert. I had a passenger and seasoned wheeler with me, who also thought the rear performed very well. I've also had pretty much every rear coil you could buy for a 4runner installed in different 4Runners, and I like the 890's because they will work at high speed and low speed. I didn't like the FZJ80 coils at high speed... they are too tall and too spongy.

Its also important to note that the Icon's are really good soaking up big ruts, but they are pretty stiff in general. The high speed, big rutted washes, it was like night and day. On the rocks they were a little stiff. I'm not sure how much high speed stuff you guys do in Washington, so keep that in mind. If I didn't go to Baja several times a year, or live near the desert, I doubt I'd buy them again. There are better, cheaper alternatives to good offroad shocks/coils meant for slow-speed stuff.

Nice thread title, haha.

Anywho, I absolutely love my 890's with Bilstien 5125's combo in the rear. Im counting down the days when I replace the front 883/90004 with a nice set of coilovers to match the ride quality of the rear end.

Its a great value setup, but dont take that as me saying the parts are cheap becuase they are not. Its just you dont get a whole lot more for the TON more money you spend on a rear icon setup.

I dont have the Icons but I do have the SAW's up front. Like Baja said the are relatively stiff day to day drivers but excellent in the dirt. I am sure you already know this. The rears I have the 890's as well but I went out and spent I think another $300 on some Fox Remote resi's (rebuildable and revalvable) and relocated the upper and lower mounts so that the shock is more vertical and pointed foreward.

My seat of the pants monitor tell me that the rear is "slightly" softer in the day to day than the front but in the dirt evereything feels groovie. The truck has seen air and handles landing s well.

yeah im not much a crawler but more of a washboard rider , the only time i need to crawl is if the circuit or cut through i'm aiming for has some of that, i know i should probably be on the expo portal as that tends to be more of my mind set in terms of how i off road but let's just face you guys are way cooler lol

that said, sounds like i just need some new billies for th back and call it good and if the lc coils are still bothering me the swap out with oem...k-then

another question since im getting ready to drop 1k on some coil overs and dont want to do it again should i spring for the upper a arms as well? my upper ball joint is on it's way out my expensive tires are not running true due to the 1/2 a degree caster that's unachievable without them and to be honest i think i need upper and lower control arm bushings as when i first did my install i stood on the lower arm trying to get that extra bit of clearance and something popped then my lower arm had lots more play in it (up and down not left and right) it's not terrible but not as firm as it was, this is my big chance to make my truck how i want it till the wife gets ahold of the money and it's all gone.....side note why do girls get pissed when you spend just as much money on your truck as they do their face, hair and vag every month?

so this is what im thinking waste of money or not

icon front coil overs
upper arms
rear billies
lower a-arm bushings

keep in mind i'll be doing a good 300-500 miles on washboard roads and rutted trails followed by 1.5k of hiway driving....my parents live 30 mins from moab and i usually go down there once or twice a year to cruise around the deserets of that part of the country usually trying to catch a few trails and parks on the way down....
this is the one im doing next summer
Oregon Off-Highway Vehicle Association
http://www.youtube.com/v/BUteV3MBy4M&hl=en&fs=1&
the back country discovery route then pop out in nor cal and head through Yosemite over to reno and down to see the rents in st.gorge while doing a few things of that sort down there...this is what i live for not seeing how tall of a rock i can climb....
long story short am i barking up the right tree with teh icon purchase or would the toytech be just as good for what im trying to do?

thanks i was looking there at their upper a arms and coil over package, no mention of covering the rear end though...

also with the short novel i wrote you guys think the light racing arms are good enough? im never going sas or go with a larger tire then im running right now, i'm happy with my clearance and stance just need armor and a smoother ride...

any coil over that's valved for quick reaction like you need in the dunes but soft enough for d/d?

thats pretty cool but i'd rather spend money and have plug and play then deal with figuring out shock angles and moving the mounts around, i can weld but it looks like a kid using chewing gum to put stuff together, so in the end paying for someone who really knows what they are doing will end up being the same as just buying the nicer shock meant for out trucks....

i was reading that the sway aways for the back are nice as they worked out some of the problems other manufactures had, but the information there went no where and left me with more questions the answers
