Installing factory alarm in a 98 4Runner that doesn't have an alarm

Hey guys, I really like the factory alarm that the T4R's come with, and since mines a 5-spd I don't want to install a upgraded remote start one. Anyways, I've picked up a couple alarm fob's off craigslist, and am really tempted to install a facotry alarm on to my rig. COLOR="DarkSlateGray"]Has anyone done this before? Any tips?[/COLOR]Im planning on finding a junkyard vehicle that has one and taking it off that. Thanks in advance!!

Don't bother. All the pre 99 were dealer installed anyway.

Likely hood of finding one in good shape and its remotes are slim to none.

Buy a new system with the remote. Get the modern features of today with paging capabilities or even having it talk with your smart phone.

best bet is to go aftermarket, your car dosent have the wireing harness to install the stock alarm....and to replace it would cost 600 alone for the harness,i am in the same deal....at best buy they have a viper system with keyless entry,remote start, and alarm 399- and they will install it....

Oh man, so there isn't really any possibility to take the old wiring harness nd stuff of a junkyard vehicle? I don't know why, but I really like the factory alarm with the button for the rear window and all. No ones done what Im thinking yet?

Pre 99 didn't have the button for the back window.

To retrofit yours to accept the newer stuff would require an entire body wires harness swap along with back door ecu and integrated relay panel.

ANyway.

Any decent aftermarket alarm will let you roll down and roll up the all the windows remotely. Even the sunroof. I would even get it so you can remotely operate the winch...

honestly the original was cool and all but for all the trouble its just not worth it, the viper system can possibly code in a signal to the tail window but thats if it has a transponder...
