Chasing Magic Light's '98 Build Thread

To commemorate hitting 300k miles I wanted to document my Runner's build progress. I purchased her from Longo Toyota in December 1997. My first request, scrap the running boards. Other than that she was stock until 2011 when the "bug" hit!

Hey man quick question about your brakes. Did you use the 231mm or the 199mm calipers, and how is the fit?
There's a lot of differing info when it comes to the split spokes and tundra brakes.

Based on other's recommendations I used these: Amazon.com: Raybestos FRC11550 Professional Grade Remanufactured, Semi-Loaded Disc Brake Caliper: Automotive Raybestos FRC11550, RFC11549. I did not have to grind the calipers to fit.

CBI bumper showed up today. I immediately got to unpacking it (note that CBI's shipper Estes was super awesome on sending updates)

I took my time getting it in place and drilling the extra holes. Basically 4 extra holes are needed on the frame. I had to remove the rubber exhaust pipe hanger to get the bumper in place. The included nuts welded to a wire are a great idea to get the far bolts in place. I could have used some instruction on assembling the swingout, but I figured it out.

That tire is dirty! Plan is to put a double Rotopax holder on the left side.

Wish I could lay down some welds like this. I used a magnet on a screwdriver to hold the little bolts behind the latch bump out.

Today I replaced my rear end lift. I went with OME 891s and Icon v2s. I put 30mm of spacers on the driver side, and 15 on the passenger side. That about leveled it out side to side. The measure from ground to fender is now 37" +- 1/4" on each side. With the 890s I was at 35 3/4 on the driver and 36 1/4 on the passenger. I made the change to try and get my front to back level with my full expedition weight (RTT+Hilift+4 rotopacks), but the rear is still about 1/4-1/2" lower than the front.

The Icons definitely feel softer than the OMEs, we'll see how they off road. I did Fins and Things with my RTT and felt the old setup was bottoming out, yet was fairly stiff on washboards.
