Duratrac diffs between c and e load range?

I've got a shot at getting a set of Duratracs (265/75/16) with only 4000 miles on them for $200 with old wheels and can't pass that up.

I have worn through my original set from 2009 which were the C load range and I have really enjoyed the tires and have done everything I've asked but am concerned how much of a diff might I experience going to the heavier E load? Moslty concerned about the ride.

If its a little rougher try lowering your PSI a little, I run my Es @ 32 psi and its pretty soft. No issues with wear either.

If you liked them, why change to a tire that is made for a much heavier truck? They will cost more, weigh more, ride harder, and give lower performance.

Edit: I just saw that you are getting them on the cheap. Maybe you could swap them out for something else at a used time shop.

THAT'S WHY i'm leary of the heavier tire but spending less than $300 with the balance and install vs new C load at a bit over $900 at Discount is hard to beat.

Maybe I could sell them and put the money toward a set of the C version.

Will my ride be overly harsh is my biggest concern. MPGs don't really bother me since the truck will only see 3-4000 miles a year at most.

Well, at that price, why not get them, try them, and if you like them, keep them? If you find that they are sucking the life out of you, you could sell and not loose much or anything for your experiment. You might like them.

It's funny. Maybe because I came into a 4runner by way of a 1994 Toyota Extended cab, but I purchased Some new BFG KO2 in load range E well over a year ago. I am still currently running, probably original OEM suspension, so not really doing the overall ride any favors. And I find them to be a quiet, capable, and comfortable tire. I would be very curious if I would feel the same about Goodyear Duratracs in an E rating. I definitely have heard all the moaning about E rated Duratracs, so maybe there is something to it, but I just don't feel it in these BFG KO2 Es.

Has someone had both that could compare and contrast? At the time, I would not be adverse to having an E rated tire. Especially if it means a stronger sidewall for offroad adventures while still being comfortable enough to daily drive.

I would pick them up and make your judgment after you kick em around the block a bit.

My wife's e load bfg a/t tires ride like rocks compared to c loads even at low psi. I don't get when people say an e load is comfortable. Its literally night and day difference.

That being said if saving money I would still run an e load.

I had e load Yoko Geolanders and went to c load duratracs and it was a very noticeable difference for the better.

However, it sounds like she's not your daily? If not, I'm with the other people suggesting to just try them out since the price is right. If you hate them, then sell them and put them toward the c load ones.

Good luck!

I was worried about getting E load range but have been very happy with my Duratracs. I have noticed no downsides. They ride just fine. In fact the truck feels more stable in the corners. Remember they only need enough air pressure to wear evenly.

Any concerns with the potential loss of a bit of power?

I think it is because comfort is a relative term. Like I said, I came from a Toyota pickup with leaf suspension. That thing rode rough. I felt everything in the roadway and would get pretty pissed after hitting one of Washington state's many highway hols or broken seams as it would be loud, jarring, and generally scare the hell out of me if I wasn't expecting it.

When I bought my 4runner, it had Michelin LX tires. I was very impressed overall just how quiet and nice the 4runner handled. The tires were pretty old and I decided to replace them. I knew I wanted an AT tire and was hearing a lot of good things about Goodyear DTs and the new BFG K02s. I opted for the K02s and was really surprised at how quiet they were and it didn't feel much or any different than the Michelin LXs that I had on before. I can't comment on older BFG ATs or the Goodyear DTs, only what I got.

I am just wondering if there is a more pronounced difference between the Goodyear DTs in C and E versus, lets say BFG K02s. Maybe so maybe not.

Let us know what you end up going with and what you think though. Good luck!

Im comparing the same vehicle with both tires. The ultra ply walls, extra rubber, weight and 80psi rating makes them a 100 times stiffer tire no madder how you look at it.

With e loads you can feel every nook and cranny down the road. C's really soak that stuff up. I even have ran as low as 28psi and still can tell a difference.

Es are rougher riding, but for $200, I'll get them before they're gone!

I have two 3rd gen 4Runners. One (01) has E range Duratracs and the other (96) has fairly new (8Kmiles) C range Duratracs. Guess which one is smoother? C range.

I run my KO2s at 40 psi. First set of E rated tires I've ever owned. I've ran on Michelin LTXs, BFG ATs, and Bridgestone ATs and HTs. I feel NO difference in how the tires feel and I've had them for about 6000 miles now. LOVE these tires. I do notice a slight hit at the gas pump (about 1 MPG)

I'm wondering if I can sell the E tires on craigslist as they have around 3700 actual miles and no visible wear so maybe I could throw them on craigslist and make at least $500 and put that towards a new set of C Duratracs.

In the city drop them to 28psi. Wear is fine and so much softer.
