Stock Tire Sizes vs Wheel Sizes vs Road Noise - can anyone me decide on a setup?

Hi everyone!

I have a new-to-me 2001 SR5 2WD, which was purchased as a wife/dog/home depot-mobile. Because I can't help myself, this is becoming a full-blown project truck, but needs to remain stock-ish in dimensions. Thread for the truck itself to follow soon...

So my question: OEM was 225/75R15, and the fellow I bought it from had slammed a set of 2023 Tacoma takeoff 245/75/R16 wheels and tires on it and sold the original set. (15" spare remains underneath) They are loud as s&%t, but otherwise fine for now.

Ahead of buying a spare rim and/or tire (since a 225/75/15 will not work) I'm trying to think long term and need opinions. I'd like to keep the 16x7 wheels, and swap to the OEM "Limited" tire sizing of 265/70/R16.

But before I go out and buy a 16" spare, does anyone think I should do anything differently?

I know this is almost ridiculous sounding, but I'm new to 4runners and wanted a curated opinion, especially since my truck is not a "limited" and some unknown suspension difference (or whatever else I'm missing) might prompt why this is a bad plan

No buying the original tire size isn't dumb, the 4runners were designed to fit 265/70R16 as an option. If you have the money, buy a matching spare so you can put it in rotation.

I wouldn't go above that rim size though. The evolution to large diameter wheels was stupid for increased fuel economy, decreased comfort, and more rim damage.

265/70/16 should work just fine on a 2wd. I would recommend you run a P-Metric tire if you don't plan to do lot of towing, offroading, or fully loaded driving. I know you said it's a Home Depot rig, but a P-Metric will still work just fine in that size. I would go with a P265/70/16 Highway type tire for best fuel economy and quietest ride. LT type tires, even C rated, are much louder than P-Metric Passenger tires.
