What is the normal Scan Gauge Engine Temperature?

I hooked up my Scan Gauge II, and it shows from 190 to 198 for a temperature. Is this about right? Is there a normal range for high load situations? For example, if I get up to 215 am I headed for trouble, or is that okay?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

I hover between 200 and 205 normally. On the beach I hit upper 220s and the factory gauge was still normal.

Watch the factory gauge in that situation, as long as it's working. That will give you a better indication of what is normal. If the gauge is around normal for you, then the temp will be too.

My factory guage never reads above middle which is why I got the Scan guage. I am usually 190-195. Before I did my T-stat and radiator I had hit 230 once or twice which to me is way to high and verge of overheating. I have yet to fond a Toyota reference or technician that can tell me what the range rating was set at on the factory guage.

IIRC i think that guage reads normal (190) between 160-220*F, i could be wrong though or thinking of the tdi's.

It's right in line with what I see on my SGII as well. With this stupid crazy heat we're having around here, don't be surprised if you see 210-212 sitting in traffic. That's what mine got up to the other day when it was 101 outside.

On my UltraGauge the temp reads between 186-194, usually reads back & forth between 188-190 95% of the time and the out side temps here are over 100 degrees lately with a heat index over 110 with my AC obviously on full blast.

Have never seen it above 194.5 so far, but I have only had the Ultra Gauge for 3 days

188-195. At 100 outside, 188-193 with the AC on max. The new Aisin fan clutch has helped keep the idle temp at 190 in traffic.

My compressor clutch though, is going downhill. A refurbished compressor is in my future I think.

i have had my scan gauge hooked up for about a week now and my water hits 207 and stays there. it has been in the high 60's to almost 90 and no change, once it did hit 208 when i really got into it merging with traffic.

I am running about that hot too... I cruise at 208 but on the highway I was running 213.8 the whole way at 70mph. It didn't matter if my fans were on or off. It would cool down when I get into towns and turn my fans on. That's what my obd2 scaner was reading.
