How steep of a hill can stock climb?

As the title says. I was on a trail but decided to turn around after I got to a hill. I'd say the steepness of the angle was equal to a staircase in a house. I could easily have gone down it I think but not up. It was regular ground/mud. Not too slippery and covered in leaves. Stock 05 sr5 v8.
---:thought the beeps would start when accelerating up hill and would keep me from being able to give it has to go up.

Go try it, see what happens!! You have reverse for a reason.

This. Put it in four low and take it nice and easy. If you don't make it, don't try to turn around, just back it down nice and easy.

If it's not a situation where I might need to gun it, I like to back down a tricky descent in neutral. Gravity is already your enemy there, you don't need the engine helping. :)

Lock the center dif with it in 4lo, keep the rpm's under 2k and you should climb right up it. If you have to back up be careful to stay straight.

Approx 43 degrees is what the prado is rated for. Over 45 is against the laws of physics (traction wise assuming no wheel spin)

I always thought the 4runner could compete with the Range Rover

get a runnin start and theres not much you cant climb! just keep the pedal to the metal and have someone hold your beer thats not in the truck

I'll try. Thing is once I go down there's no way to get back I the road if I can't get back up it!

That its impressive, I'd be too nervous to try that steep an angle. The 4Runner should be able to take some severe angles stock. I would assume your biggest issues being stock are the initial approach angle, traction (tires, gear selected, ect), speed/power (dePending if you want to go slow our hit it fast), and confidence. Worst case, you can't make it, just roll backwards slowly perpendicular to the incline and move on.

Use 4l with center diff engaged and 2 or 3 on shift selector - probably 2. keep rpm high enough that you can back off if needed or accelerate ~2,500. downshift if you need more power. if you spin out back slowly in r and keep it straight. don't bury it. engagiing the center diff deactivates the throdle control issue and loss of power

the rover in the video appears to be climbing a famous rock in South Africa. The face of this rock makes tires just stick to it, making it an easier climb than it looks.

here is a link to a toyota prado making what appears to me to be the same climb:

Toyota Prado Hill Climb - Video

this this huge hill in the woods that im scared to try. i am not worried about the power, a 4cyl wrangler with a 4 in. lift made it up (barely) and a 4.0 cherokee made it up (also barely). i didnt want to try, not because of the height, but because it is very narrow and if you go off track you will end up in a rut of erosion which is filled with rocks. i just dont think its worth ruining my truck over.

Did either of those jeeps have lockers? If not, that hill should be no problem for a Gen4 4Runner.

Have any pics of the hill you're talking about?

Going back to the hill today to try it out. Keep it in D? Or should I be using different gears when off road?

If you think you're going to need every last ounce of torque, shift to 4Low and your lowest selectable transmission gear. If you lose traction, try coming to a higher transmission gear.
