If you have the black end pieces mine were the same but I fixed it with rubbing compound on a rag followed by scratch remover.

They are black. They looked incandescent not as much as the paint was removed or faded I should say. I tried polishing them up but it didn’t actually help, but I didn’t use what you advised. It was driving me crazy so I wound up plastidipping them.
I didn’t realize that you can just pop them off (I’m a new 4runner owner) and I wasn’t sure if I’d like the look. But I think they turned out great. They are matte finish but look brand new and gives the truck a bit more rugged look imo.
Once the dip wears I’ll try your method and see if it works for me.

Mine on my 07 Sport were faded. I had my mechanic remove the whole roof rack and all base pieces. I then painted the rack and pieces with Rustoleum satin black pain. Turned out amazing. Unfortunately I won't be able to get you pics till around Monday or Tuesday.

Yeah, mine at certain angles have a bluish hue to them when the sun catches them. I plan to refinish them in satin black like the above poster at some point, but I’ve had too many other priorities to get to, and not enough time, so it may wait until next spring. Having them pop off is kind of a pain because I had one fly off going through a car wash. The air blaster blew it right off! Glad I was looking in my rearview mirror when it happened, otherwise I may have thought I lost it on the road, or someone stole it. I’ve since used stainless screws to secure them from the inside where they don’t show so that never happens again!
