Rotor size "16 or 17?"

Hey all, I'm in need of some new rotors soon, as my rear pads are all but worn down, front pads are new, and the weight application difference has pretty much destroyed my front rotors "warped badly". I'm curious though about the different rotor sizes available. I have a basic SR5, V8 2005, but also have 17' wheels. I'm not sure if the 17' wheels weren't an add-on when purchased, instead of from the factory, being as it's a SR5. I'm the second owner, original owner bought it in Illinois. If it matters, I also have a factory sunroof, no spoiler, crome tip exhaust, perm 4x4. I'm about to order the new rotors and pads all around online "for a total savings of over $140bucks over dealership prices" and don't want any suprises when I get into the process. If the car has 17' wheels, am i safe to assume the rotors are 17' as well? Is it an either/or situation, or could there be 16' on the car, but have 17' rotors? Any way to tell without taking them off?

There's two rotor sizes, 12.6" and 13.2", IIRC. The 12.6's come on all except Limited's and XREAS equipped models (Sport Editions).

On an SR5 17" wheels are sometimes standard sometimes considered an 'upgrade' depending on year, region etc. Just because an SR5 has 17" wheels doesn't mean it has the bigger rotors.

If you don't have a Limited and you don't have XREAS you should have the smaller rotors.

you really need to call the dealer's parts dept and have them run your vin. that is the only true way to determine what size you have.

Super old thread but still relevant for this new owner. I have 2003 Limited. Does this mean my rotors are 13.2"? Or is looking for the caliper cast number the best way? Found this post on the web.

On the inside of the OEM calipers there is a 13** model # that will indicate the proper size rotors for your 4Runner.

13WH- 13.3"/338mm rotor diameter

13WL- 12.6"/319mm rotor diameter

13WG- 12.6"/319mm rotor diameter

I am 2nd owner of a 2005 T4R Limited w/V8 and Xreas suspension. Came across this situation of which size rotor to buy for the front when I had to replace warped unit. If I had just followed infor from this forum, I would have ended up buying the 338mm/13.3" rotors. On a whim, decided to look at the caliper casting and it was a 13WG, so bought the correct 319mm/12/6" rotor. Lesson learned here, checking casting size is the best way, followed by measuring diameter of rotor ( albeit a tad difficult with rotor still mounted on vehicle to obtain an accurate measurement).
 
I have a 2003 SR5 with 17" wheels and plan to replace the front brakes including the rotors/pads and calipers. Since this vehicle could have either the 319 or 338mm installed, would it make any difference if I just replace everything with the 319mm components?

You probably won't notice any difference unless you are really sensitive to braking, but just be aware that you need to change calipers to go with rotor diameter.
