If they really used 0w-20 full synthetic oil you got a good deal.

Considering that the correct Toyota synthetic 0w20 oil is anywhere from around $6.00 to $10.00 per quart depending on where you get it. And you need to buy 7 of them.
Another $5.00 give or take for the filter, and then paying someone for the extra effort to remove and replace the skid plates and deal with the filter housing, $85.00 seems reasonable.
You're not driving a Chevy 350 anymore, with 5 quarts of the cheapest oil and a cheap and fast spin on filter and no covers to remove.
I don't pay anyone to change my oil but it probably costs me somewhere around $50 to $60 for the stuff to do it myself every 6 to 8 weeks.

They had a special at my local O'reilly. A jug of Valvoline 0W-20 and a filter for around 25 bucks. I bought one more quart at the (affordable!) regular price.
Found a local shop who charged me $20 to change the oil. The owner had to eat some of that to pay for oil disposal. lol
I guess I lucked out. Probably won't find a deal like that ever again.

EDIT: Just realized I got dino oil, not synthetic. Is that a huge no-no?

Depending on if I do it myself or have the dealer do it, it would cost me either: a) ~$60 in material plus my time wrenching under the truck; or b) a couple of missing/stripped skid plate bolts, one over tightened oil filter housing and a grossly overfilled oil pan if I have the dealer change it for "free".

I have yet to see the Valvoline 0w-20 "dino" oil that you claim to have purchased. Valvoline's web site hasn't heard of it either, not even in a synthetic blend. The only 0W-20 motor oil Valvoline seems to be selling is 100% synthetic.
I just had the dealer do the 40K service less tire rotation (just put new tires on a month ago), so it was just an oil/filter change, fluid level checks, etc. Price came out to a bit more than $56. I asked the service advisor to double check on the price because it was so low, and whether synthetic was included in the price. He gave me the thumbs up. I know I pay more than $56 for oil and filter over the counter, but the service write-up states that I got full synthetic. He did tell me that the price of my service was cut $20 since I didn't have my tires rotated.
This thread makes me feel a little better for paying $80something at the dealer. At least I'm not the only one! It's a mile away, 30 minutes or less and it's the right stuff. Of course, I'm sure there's a premium for being Boston and all.
I could do it in my driveway, but then we're talking time getting parts and time disposing, etc, etc, easier for a busy apartment dweller like me to just cough up the $$ and have it done before 8am. Maybe once I have a shop again and can store a box of filters and case of oil, I'll go back to DIY.

My first two "free" oil changes from local Toyota dealership in Avon, In. did NOT include lubing the driveshaft(s). It was obvious that it wasn't done (if you have done it yourself you know what I mean).
First trip included two busted skid bolts. Second trip they played bumper cars with our second vehicle as we were picking the 4runner up. They thought it was one of their trade-ins. Now we know how they treat trade-ins.
The 5th gen 4runner is maintenance intensive (compared to say a yaris). You can and should change/lube all those maint. points for longevity. The good thing about that is that those points can be serviced for a lasting extended design life versus non serviceable shorter design life.
Bottom line is: these vehicles deserves better than mall crawling, soccer mom driving, jiffy lube taken owners that don't own a grease gun (or two).

I told my dealer I would GLADLY pay them $100 if knew they were doing a quality job with the correct parts. Until then I'm DIY.
I buy TGMO 0w20 by the case for $5-$6/qt by placing my order online and picking up at the dealer.
Filters can be found at a reasonable price on Amazon. Same for washers.
Don't forget the OCI is up to 10k on these trucks if you're not in the severe service category.

I believe last time I payed $69 at toyo dealer. But I think they bumped up prices $10 more for oil change.
Yep, I just stocked up on Mobil 1 from Costco, but if they're not running a sale, then I've found Wal-Mart has the next best price. Where are you finding 04152-YZZA5s for $3 though? That's about half the price I paid last time!
