Party Mode on all the time, with all 4 rear speakers in use

I stumbled on this post a day or two ago: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/91085-how-always-party-mode-eq.html . It seems like a quick and easy mod to keep Party Mode on all the time and engage all 4 speakers in the rear of the vehicle - something I've been looking to do. I mean, why have an 8-speaker system when only 6 speakers will be engaged at any one time?

If anyone has done this mod, could you post as to how it sounds with all speakers in use - better, worse, no difference?

Has this mod been considered for a sticky?

Probably because the party mode speakers are meant to be loud (not necessarily good) and will lower the sound quality in the vehicle, which has been meticulously tuned by the audio professionals at JBL (maybe).

Wait, we are not talking about lift kits or MTs? :bolt:

Think you got party mode all wrong. No matter what system you have, it does not add more speakers to the mix. In fact, on most, it cuts the back door speakers out. In my opinion, it plain sucks and is for kids. Too much muddy bass and just plain deteriorates sound quality.

No, I think I got it right. The mod above DOES add more speakers to the mix, by including the rear door speakers, which are normally eliminated when party mode is engaged. I've replaced all the speakers in my 4Runner with decent speakers. With a bit of tweaking of the bass & treble controls, the mix sounds much better with party mode on than in "normal" mode. But all ears are different, and YMMV.

This is great timing , I was cleaning my truck the other day and realized my rear door speakers were not working and was puzzled. Never thought about the button . I allways have it in pary mode because it sounds best to me but now it seems stupid to turn off 2 speakers. Like this system is so awesome it can afford to drop a couple speakers. NOT lol. This mod is on my list now ! I think it can only sould better with more speakers . If not I'll just mod it back.

That's where you don't make sense. So you turn on party mode and kill 2 speakers so then you need to mod it to keep them on. Duh. Don't turn on party mode and adjust the tone and balance controls to how you like the sound.

Well, one of us isn't making sense. When you're NOT using Party Mode, you're still "killing" two speakers - the ones in the rear hatch. Either way, you're only using 6 of the 8 speakers. With this mod, all 8 speakers are enabled.

I did this last night. Very easy. All 8 speakers no play at the same time... as for sound? Eh.... same crappy system but a little louder. Personally I think the hatch speakers need to be upgraded at a minimum

Does your rear hatch not play when NOT using Party Mode? I think you have a problem with your system. All speakers are supposed to play with party mode off. Rear door and hatch speakers are just wired in series. Party Mode ON trips the relay and disconnects the rear door speakers. Nothing more.

My rear hatch speakers always have sound, party mode on or off. When party mode is on the rear door speakers are shut off and the hatch ones seem louder.

I am confused now, I have the party button pressed and my system sounds 10 times better than when not pressed

This is exactly how my system works !, also after reading this I decided to turn off party mode and make some tuning adjustments. And it's actually better than I remember , I had turned on party mode when I bought the truck and never turned it off. Maybe it's just in my mind that I now know the rear speakers are playing but it's sounds ok and I going to run it this way for awhile before I mod.

I think you may have problem, I just tested mine and all 8 play without party mode on.

it doesnt completely cut sound out from any speakers when party mode is off.. when you turn it on all it does it add more power to the rear speakers and bump them up a notch on the volume

my rear doors cut off when I put PM on... and the hatch speaks seem to get louder. Now all 8 stay on but when I hit PM the rear doors stay on and you can hear an increase in the hatch... might be butt dyno but in the end it is still a crap system

I think this thread should be punishment reading for anyone who asks if 17" wheels will interfere with "breaks" or if anyone else's T4R leans towards the driver side.

just to be clear, everybody chiming in here knows that "Party Mode" behaves differently depending on the specific OEM audio system, right?

with "Party Mode" on...

• base, 8-speaker audio – rear door speakers disabled, boost to liftgate speakers

• JBL Premium 15-speaker* audio – EQ tweak & bass boost—all speakers remain powered

*Toyota counts each coaxial in dash, rear doors, and liftgate as two speakers, which along with mid-woofers in front doors and subwoofer in rear enclosure is how they arrive at dubious "15-speaker" claim
