Cruise control operation?

This being my 3rd Japanese SUV(I owned a 96 Sudekick Slort, and a 95 4Runner), and my question is: why can't Japanese car companies figure out the cruise control programs? My '16 will downshift at the slightest change, then won't up shift back to overdrive. If I cut off the cruise, I can push the accelerator hard before the teams will downshift, then it will up shift immediately when I let off the gas. What gives? My other 2 vehicles did the exact same thing. None of the domestic vehicles I've owned are were that sensitive.

What color was your Sudekick Slort?

I did not notice this in 99 Isuzu Rodeo (I still miss that car). It actually has a button "Sport mode" which did exactly that.

in 4Runner it's different story - CC uphill is useless. As soon as rpm starts going down I switch to S4 and keep it there till the top of the hill. BTW on my last long trip (5400miles in 2 weeks) I found CC useless. Tried it few times, then always after few minutes I had to turn it off because something changed on the road.

Oh, and my 95 Tacoma does not have shifting problem at all - it's manual and no CC

My "Bismarck" is the first 5th Gen 4Runner in Poland. Local Land Cruiser Diesel is just a luxury form of a farm tractor.

Mine cruise control has no problem downshifting or upshifting. I find it does better than the other drivers on the road at maintaining speed on flat land and hills. Maybe it's just that CC operation has a lot of variability from vehicle to vehicle, kind of like turn signal blinkers never (rarely) sync from vehicle to vehicle.
