TRD 4runner: This noise is driving me crazy

Can anyone help diagnose this problem? I made this video when the car had 200 miles on it. I have taken it to the dealer twice and each time they say the car is to spec and they can't hear the noise. It is driving me and my wife insane.

I did some research and it seems different that a lifter noise but maybe someone here on the forum can help? I am talking about this oscillating noise in the background.

Sounds totally normal to me. Maybe go sit in another 4Runner with the engine running and see if it sounds the same?

P.S. You and your wife may want to work on your "drives me crazy" threshold, because 4Runners make a LOT of weird noises.

Unlike many other cars, Toyota uses a chain drive for the camshafts/valves instead of a timing belt. A whirring sound like this is normal. Chains last forever; you never will need to replace a timing belt.

Mine was making the same noise.

Your main fuse box is under the hood driver side. Open it up and find the flux capacitor. It has an adjustment screw, turn it to the left very slowly and you should notice a reduction in noise. Be sure to use a left handed screwdriver.

Just don’t hit 88mph after the adjustment. Although, a 4Runner may never make it to 88mph.

Honestly most modern cars use timing chains anymore. Timing belts are mostly a figment of the 90s/early 2000s

You need to give it a little more gas

120 is when mine hits the limiter.

Not always. My 1992 Toyota pickup that I bought new, threw its timing chain at 49000 miles. Put me off Toyota’s for years.

Man I forgot how a stock exhaust sounded like from the inside. You would hate driving my 4Runner if that drives you nuts. My truck has had an aftermarket exhaust since the beginning

if my wife complained I’d tell her to kick rocks and drive her hybrid. We can meet at our destination. Luckily she likes loud trucks!

I de-modded mine and removed the FC...
Why you ask..... because my T4R always wants to exceed 88mph.

I don't hear that noise while in or outside of mine.

Of course I've been shooting firearms for 50+ years.... so there's that!

Your like me, although you have about 3 years on me. My high frequencies are shot, no pun intended. I have been shooting high power for 46 years. My first firearm was an AR15 at 18 for $249 in California. Paid and walked the same day. Times have really changed here.
