want to get rid of torsion bars??

i want to get rid of the torsion bars and put coilovers in the front. Is that possible or no?

question #2: if so do i need to swap out the upper and lower arms to do so.

Why go to all that trouble for something that is only marginally better? Might as well go ahead and put a solid axle under the front end and be done with the IFS altogether. Or just buy a 3rd Gen--it has the coilover suspension already on it.
 
you might be able to do it with stock arms if you run like 2inch b.s wheels
otherwise look at going long travel

here are the 80% bolt on shock hoops you can try or even hit him up via email or phone

im actually in the process of install these but i also have his LT kit. i wont be ditching my t-bar since they flex much better for my use. i wanted a longer shock to gain a little more travel
 
cause im a noob with 4runners and that is why im always asking questions.

so a solid axle would be the better choice then. it sucks that i dont have a 4x4.

well my torsion bars are cranked all the way with the 4in body lift that it has. thats another thing, i want to get rid of the body lift
 
so what do you want your end result to be?
wow, never heard of a 4 inch body lift. max i usually see is 3.
you can start by relaxing the torsion bars. unless you like the lift it gives you, than look at getting some OME torsion bars. i think they make pretty good suspension
 
yea its the way i bought it, not really happy with the huge body lift. thats why ive been asking around about good shocks and coils to give me a 3in lift.

plus i was just looking at the swayaway torsion bars and have been researching those most of the night.

but i really want to put coilovers in the front but no one has been able to tell me anything about that

Or

Sell your truck and add the $2k to a 3rd gen budget and get a truck that's got what you want on it.

You don't seem to be sure exactly what you want with your truck--in one post, you say it sucks not having a 4x4, then you say you really want a 2WD. Call me confused. I would definitely get rid of that overly-tall body lift as recommended, and go with something like a proven OME (Old Man Emu) mild lift. Slap a locker in the rear, some decent tires on it, and go play! I only mention the solid axle because if you're going to go to all that effort and expense, you might as well have something truly different and more capable to show for it, rather than basically retrofitting the next IFS and having the same limited wheel travel and clearance issues. Just my two cents...
 
ok so we can all stop being super confused about what i want, i want a lift that i can take out on the trails(no crazy rock crawling not my thing) and basic off roading, nothing to extreme until i can get more cash for this truck. i live in SOCAL so all we have is dirt roads, desert, and fire roads. so i need a lift that will keep good clearence with the 32" tires that i have on it and able to clear various size ditches. I agree that i have even confused myself with what i really want. this will end up being my fun truck but for the moment it is my DD. :roadkill:
 
An OME suspension without the body lift should suit your needs just fine then. It's flexible, rides well, and gives plenty of room for 32's. The elimination of the body lift will get your CoG back down for better stability.
 
im pretty sure the 4x2 and 4x4 2nd 4runner has the same suspension so that OME kit should work.

since its 2wd and you mainly have dirt roads. look into some long travel kits if you have the money. i bet that be much funnier at speeds on those roads.
 
ok so is it the kit or just the shocks.

and yea ive been looking into the total chaos kit but i dont have 2500 bucks just laying around. so that would be a future project. but i have been looing into bilstien 5100 or 5125, or skyjacker shocks. but sure how to choose the right shocks.
