Anybody got any advice or prefrences on cv axles? Aftermarket vs stock, any particular brand?

Yea i was very surprised to see that the teeth were broken myself. It started out as an axle shaft sheared in half inside the diff. The only thing i can think is that the needle bearings got wedged in the ring and pinion thus creating catastrophic failure:happens:

Well I thought I was going to be able to replace the needle bearings. After removing the diff the afternoon I found that now only were the bearings completely tore up from the axle shaft breaking there is also two teeth sheared off of the ring gear so looks like I'm going to be putting in a used...

How would I identify my front diff. In reference to i'm looking at replacing the axle shaft bearings and they have the following note "4WD, IFS 7.5 in., 6.7 in. Ring Gear " I have a 1998 Sr5 manual with a 3.4. I also have found a used diff with a note of " 1996-00 Toyota Tacoma 4Runner Front...

Thanks for the link but it was really unclear. I'm just trying to figure out if it will cause damage if I drive it in rear wheel drive with every thing going to the front diff removed.

Ok so I tore up a CVaxle on my 98 4runner. I'm trying to see if it would be safe to remove both CV shafts and the drive shaft to the front diff and drive the truck in rear wheel drive? CV shaft broke in half so can't just put a new one in also tore up the bearing in the diff.

Is it worth just getting a new starter?

Ok my t4r has been giving me intermiten starting problems. When I go to start it it will act as if its a dead battery. Usually apon cycleing the ignition it will start.
