The clunk after hard braking IMO is normal, my Surf has had it since I got it. I have 71k kms (44k miles) and the driveshaft is lubed properly.

If you have the A340F tranny, its a solid reliable autobox so just check the fluid color and level periodically. My 01 Surf is a tad different. The doors lock when you press the brake pedal to shift from park, and unlock when the ignition is turned off. The lights however do not turn off automatically, wish they did. I also have that annoying beep beep when in reverse.

you can use a hammer to whack it out, but the new one needs to be pressed in. So why not remove the spindle and take it to a shop where they can press out the old one and press in the new one? It's possible to hammer in the new one using a large socket but you could ruin or misalign it.....
