The bearings were changed each time the seals were changed. New inner and outer seals, new wheel bearings, and new brakes since they were messed up by gear oil each time. Also the last time the driver's side was replaced was two months ago and it is leaking now as well.

So I've had this reoccurring problem with my 4runner. It's 97 sr5 4wd 5spd. Well, one of the rear axle seals started leaking and I got it fixed, then the opposite side started leaking. So, if you had the option of putting in a 4.10 locking rear diff or putting in a 4.30 and changing the front diff as well (Manual tranny), which would you choose? The 4runner is lifted 3" as well with larger tires (I believe they are 31" or 32" tires)? Would the 4.30 gearing make the speedo...

Thanks for the reply. 200k is a stretch I know. I didn't expect that to be a number people were seeing often, but it is the first number for a long shot clutch life that came to mind. My dad's old subaru GL ran 210k on the origional clutch, and my 91 subaru legacy turbo ran close to 200k...

How many miles have most of you gone before thinking about getting a new clutch on your 3rd Gen 4runners? Will they run 200k without needing the clutch replaced, or is it more like 120k? I do realize that it really depends on the driver, but what have you guys been seeing?

My guess would be that you should be fine. My subaru almost passed inspection with an aftermarket exhaust and an obvious aftermarket downpipe. It also had an intercooler added to it that wasn't there when it was stock. They only complained about the downpipe. The other stuff they completely...
