Had exactly the same issue. Ended up being a heat shield vibrating against the exhaust only when tranny was engaged. Bent it up a little and problem was solved.

I just put a set of these on my 4runner about a month ago. Had them in the snow 3 times so far and they do very well. Almost no additional noise over stock. The only downside is that these tires are pretty heavy so I lost at least 1 mpg and this is with the stock 265/70/16 size.

Any other comments on mpg drop with Duratrac's? I have 265/70/16 Michelin's now and am considering 265/75/16 load range C Duratrac's but don't want to sacrifice alot of mpg. My other options are 265/70/16 General Grabber AT2 or BFG AT's. Goodyear does not make the duratrac in the stock 4 runner...

Quicksilvr, thanks for the input. So I looked up the 265/75 duratrac in load range C is it is 45 lbs vs 44 lbs for the p metric 265/70 general grabber. So weight wise they are a wash, but I've always though that going to the 265/75 will automaticlly drop you down a couple of miles per gallon...

Why is it that every time I hear about one of these failure's its always at low speed (like in a parking lot)? I have yet to hear about one letting go on the highway (which is really good, but seems strange).
