'00 4Runner SR5 - fan speed?

Yay - first post of actual substance here!

Anyways...just picked up my '00 4Runner SR5 Highlander 2 days ago. 130K, and it's in almost cherry condition. :) I have ONE minor issue...so minor that I guess I don't care if I never get it 'fixed', but hey.

So I've noticed that if I turn on the fan control, the very first speed ('Lo', I guess) may as well be off. It puts out absolutely nothing that I can tell. I have to kick it up to the next speed to get anything out.

Any thoughts/suggestions? I did search on this and didn't find anything here. Thanks in advance for any thoughts/advice. (Unless it involves suggestions of me flying at a rolling doughnut with a certain body part, maybe. lol)

You could try dropping out the blower fan and cleaning it out. With it out of the housing, plug it in and test the fan speeds as well, there may actually be a problem with it, who knows. It's 3 screws and a wiring harness to drop out the blower motor, passenger side footwell behind the glovebox.

I had the same problem on my 01...Pulled the blower motor down and you would not beleive the amount of leaves and other goodies that were packed in there. A very easy 10 minute job and it is like new.

Interesting - will definitely have to check into that. I'd ask where it was, but I've not exercised the search option yet, and am quite sure that info is easy to find. Thanks for the information. :)

My truck was parked for about 7 weeks. When I turned the blower on for the first time after that, I got a face full of crap. lol. Mice had pulled the insulation off my hood liner and built a nest in the blower fan. What a mess.

Little hint: that back screw is nearly impossible to get at unless you take the kick plate trim off under the dash. You just have to remove the sill piece, then that kick plate just snaps back and out. Makes it a lot easier to get the blower out.
