01-02 OEM Fog Light Mounting Madness !

So I finally got around to mounting some OEM fog lights I bought a while back. I got the OEM brackets, and the bolt and nut that the dealership diagram showed.

But for the life of me, I can't figure out how it should be mounted. I'm fairly certain I'm still missing some pieces.

I can mount the bracket up into my bumper, but no where on the bracket are there pieces that run parallel to the fog lights, in order to bolt it to the bracket.

but neither of them look like my bracket, I assume because they are for 2000 and earlier vehicles.

Then I had the dealership print out the diagram, and it looks like the bracket in the picture
has some pieces that mine doesn't, that are parallel to the fog light mounting piece.


Here you can see I put the bracket up into the bumper, and it fits nicely up into there.

You can see there are no pieces of metal that are orthogonal to the fog-hole, which is what the fog lights need to bolt onto, and hold them in place at the hole ..

Then it also came with these little plastic plug thingys, not sure where to use them .. or I'm just missing something here ..

Here is the diagram the dealership printed out, and you can't really see where the fog light actually mounts to the bracket ? And looking at the bracket, it has a couple more little pieces that aren't on my bracket.

Is there any way someone with a 2001-2002 OEM fog light setup take some pics and let me see them? I'm completely baffled here.

Those are Hella fogs,not the factory Stanley brand lights. Hellas were a dealer installed option,they don't use the same brackets.

Well that explains a lot. I didn't know there were multiple types of fogs. Anyone know where I could find the correct brackets for the Hella ones that I have?

Is there a different Toyota part #? Or should I try to go through Hella?

Unfortunately Hella discontinued the 4Runner specific kit. Try ebay or rallylights.com,they may have spares lying around.

i just picked up a pair of oem fog lights from here.... and i bought the 4 fog light bolts for it but cannot figure out how to install thsese do i have to buy nuts for the bolts?

Recently there was a thread where a guy was looking for the measurements to make the Hella bracket. My truck has the same kit the thread spoke of and it looks nothing like the ones pictured. It is almost a right triangle (8x8) that mounts on to the inner bumper. Check with the OP of that thread maybe he'll make more than one set or get the specs to make it or have it made.

Do you have the Hella fog lights or the Stanley ones? If you have the stanley fog lights that are posted by Ed_C above, then you can get everything you need from the Toyota Dealership. If you have the Hella ones, pictured here:

Then you can't buy the brackets anymore. Best bet is find someone on here, or at a Junkyard, or pay good money to hvae them custom fabricated (outweighs the entire cost, and you might as well buy a full kit off Ebay or Burtman).

If you have the Hella ones, you can make the Stanley brackets by rigging and cutting, see below.

I got the dimensions, and sent the drawings to a local fabricator and he quoted be about $100 per bracket, and I couldn't justify that. So I decided to see if I hack the Stanely brackets up and see if I could get them mounted.

I used a dremel cut off wheel and cut along half the original mounting points, and bent that cut piece so that it was orthogonal to the other half:

Then if you mount them and put them in the bumper they look like this:

So, then you have to modify the mounting hole and cut some material off the top of the Hella bracket:

The light above is for the driver side. The hole on the left is the one that mounts to the modified bracket. The smaller hole on the right I use to put some backup zip ties JUST IN CASE the single bolt comes loose. I did put some lock tight and a lock washer on the single nut in hopes of it never coming loose.

Then mounted it lines up with the bumper hole:

I have yet to get them turned on because I found out the inside of mine were super corroded, and I bought new PIAA H3 bulbs I'm going to install today, then I can see if the Hella adjustment has enough to get them to point correctly, since the whole bracket is all jimmy-rigged up! The details will be in my build thread.

i have the stanley oem lights....beside the light and two bolts for each light is there anything else i need for it? my 4runner already had the harness,fog light hole and stalk when i bought it so I'm just wondering if I'm missing something when it comes to mounting it...can someone post a pic of there installed?

I'm assuming you have the brackets (like the picture posted by Ed_C above). Then you just mount them, plug them in.

Mounting is pretty self-explanatory, just put the light up to the hole and you'll where the other mounting points are supposed to connect.

Check and make sure you have the relay, but if the truck had fog lights from the factory, you should be good to go.

does anyone know what i need to hook up my fog light to the bumper..i already have the stub bolt with a nut on it... I'm trying to find out what else.. i went to the dealership they had no idea and nothing online
