Thanks Hepar. I want each mod to look as though it could have been a factory option as much as possible. Even though I like to get out and play this is still my daily driver and needs to function as such.

I have been mulling over the bumpers. I can't decide if I want to order a Shrockworks (which I really like) or attempt to incorporate a winch into the factory bumper, decisions. :biggrin2:

I'm the exact same way. Again, you've done a great job at it.

I love the Shrockworks bumper. Have you considered the Outdoor Logic bumper? It would be a pretty fun project to try to incorporate a winch into the stock bumper. Maybe you can plan (money wise) to get an aftermarket bumper and then try to incorporate it into the stock bumper. If you make a mess out of it, then you can just buy the new bumper. No harm!

I haven't checked out the Outdoor Logic bumper but will. That sounds like to good plan, the stock front bumper is begging for someone to install a winch in the lower valence. Looks like it was build to have something there.
 
Looks great! Would you by chance be able to take a measurement from the ground to the top of the fender well for the front and the back? Or from the top of the tire to the top of the fender well? This is the same spring setup I'm thinking about and I want to see how much I might gain.

Apologies for taking so long. We are really getting pounded with tornados this week and it was hard to get lose and take measurements.

I need to add that my front springs and shocks had 30,000 on them when I bought them so they were already broke in. They have a one inch lean to the driver so I may add a trim packer on that side at some point. You cant see the lean though so its not high priority.

The front driver is 35.75" and the rear driver is dead on 37". So as you can see it has very little rake but I like it that way. The LC coils give the 4Runner such a large rake its not my fav. I really like the OME setup and still need to replace my rear shocks. They are still stock and tend to be on the light side when the Runner is loaded down.

Thanks for the measurements. So your passenger side is 1" taller than the measurements above?

I just measured my 99 with the tall stock springs, and I am at 35.5" front and 36" rear. I might have to reconsider my spring selection if I can only squeeze another .25" and 1" respectively with the 881/891 combo.

Yes, the passenger side is 1" taller. I'm not really familiar with the 99 but do know it came with taller springs. Glad to help.
 
I was able to leave work a little early today since I have been working from home to help cover due to the recent storms. Since it was nice I decided to get outside and start working on a few things to tidy up the Runner before the Cinco de Mayo trip.

I started with pulling the compressor apart and and tapped the output for a standard 1/4 inch NPT thread so I could use basic fittings from any hardware store. I still need to plan out the plumbing for the Runner but that may have to come in the future since I can't find high pressure 1/4" tubing locally. Before doing this the cheap gauge that came on the compressor would show a max pressure of 100psi after making the change it is up to 140psi. I'm sure this isn't accurate but it was a considerable improvement.

Recently I realized that my hella's weren't working along with my bypass for the VSC/TRAC control so I dug into the dash to correct this. I found that the power wire I used for these was nicked by a bracket and the fuse blew. The fuse has been replaced, wire repaired and split loomed for future protection.
 
I got the shocks in today and wanted to get these on for the Cinco trip to see how I like them. I was able to get these for a decent price so if I don't like the ride I can go with something a little softer. Here are a couple pics.

how is the air compressor holding up in the engine bay? notice any problems with it being exposed to the engine heat? I have the same kind and have been wanting to hard mount it, either in the cargo area or under the hood, just concerned that the higher temps next to the engine could harm it.

So far its holding up pretty well. I have noticed a few rust spots on the casing but nothing major and nothing I couldn't take care of with a little touch up paint. My biggest issue so far is the hose. The compressor I have gets so hot that I'm concerned the hose will weaken and burst. Currently I'm using 3/8" shop hose but plan on ordering 1/4" air brake hose and replace the old. Also, I may use copper next to the compressor itself allowing it to cool a bit before reaching the hose. Its a work in progress. :ybrick: It did survive the water crossing.
 
same with mine, you can fry an egg on it after airing up 4 tires haha. But I've had it for over 2 years now and it is still going strong. When I end up mounting mine I want to run a short air line to the exterior, probably right under my front bumper, where I can hook up a longer line to reach all 4 tires.
 
I can plug directly into the compressor for the front and I ran a hose to the rear of the runner for the rear tires but I really want to replace this with a smaller line. I love the convenience of being able to air up before leaving the trails.

right on, I would like to have it so I don't even have to open the hood to air up, but that would involve more wiring, relocating the pump power switch and all, and I'm still a novice when it comes to that stuff.
