02 Hydraulic brake booster faliure

i am getting a squealing sound when i first start up my truck in the morning. i know the whole assembly is pretty expensive from Toyota. Anyone can tell me how i can fix this without going to the dealership?

What makes you think that it's the brake booster? Without hearing the "squealing" it's kinda hard to diagnose. I'm more inclined to think that it is a belt that needs tightening...

It will make the noise with the key on the position as well.

Do the brakes work? My booster just went out and my pedal is as hard as a rock.

My thought was how long would a used on last me? Not sure if i should buy a brand new one or get a used one. Can you rebuild these units?

The one I have is off an 01 with 175k on it. No noise when removed and the truck was daily driven prior to the frame rusting out a rear end link mount. I have seen a DIY about doing work to the 01-02 boosters but I'm not sure on what they fix as I have a 97 with the standard master

I bought a used oem one last year for about $50

New auto parts store boosters are about 300 and new oem is 700 (I think). That math was easy for me.

1st gen tundras, same MY tacos and 1st gen sequoias, to name a few, then there's lexus suvs....

It think 1st gen tacos, tundra and sequoias came with ordinary pumps. 01 and up 4runners, 00 and up LC's and newset tacos are all equipped with this crazy expensive master pump.

I meant to do this a while back, but this thread just reminded me.

Can anyone with an 01 or 02 listen to the sound in this video and tell me if my brake booster is going out?

I don't recall this happening when I first bought it (about a year ago), but noticed it a few months in. I'd be surprised if I didn't notice it at all on the test ride as it is pretty dang loud. I know it's normal for these boosters to make a sound upon start up - but this seems louder than it should be. Brakes still work great and I have noticed any decline in performance.

My 05 sequoia has a normal pump.

Well brakes still working well is Great. Sure its coming from that front left side? Mine makes a similar sound but its from the radio antenna, my abs is silent.

Brake booster makes zero sounds on my 01.
